2023 Hero Xtreme 200R - What Will Be New?
The test mule of what appears to be the Xtreme 200R was recently seen on a city run. The bike was loaded with a pillion rider as well. While the test bike is seen camouflaged, it does have new changes visible clearly. For example, the design now looks more aligned with its smaller sibling the Xtreme 160R. Additionally, it had USD front suspension and a monoshock suspension at the rear. The new Xtreme 200R is going to be based on the Xpulse 200 platform. Hence, a lot of part sharing will take place among the different bikes from Hero.
In terms of the engine, we suspect it will continue using the same 199.6cc single-cylinder unit. This engine is known for its refined performance and produces a peak power of 19 bhp & 17.35 Nm of peak torque. However, the possibility of the engine getting a retune can not be denied. We also expect it to get new OBD2-compliant components as well. As far as the features go by, it will get the Xtec-connected features from Hero for sure. Also, bits like LED lights, colour display, etc., are also expected to be fitted as standard on it.
Verdict
While Hero is doing good in the entry-level commuter bike segment; the sales of the overall segment are now down. Hence, new products are needed to cater to more premium segments like the 200cc itself which includes well-established rivals like the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V. Also, the potential of this segment is much more than the commuter segment in the current day scenario. We also expect that Hero will introduce a new 160cc sibling of the Xtreme along with the 200, later this year.
