Ninja ZX-4R: Kawasaki's latest offering In India
In our previous news just a few days ago, we highlighted that Kawasaki's launch in India featured solely the base variant of their ZX-4R model. Unfortunately, the higher-spec SE variant and the ZX-4RR haven't made their way to the Indian market.
This offering comes in a single variant, with only one colour option available, which happens to be the eye-catching Metallic Spark Black. Much like other models within Kawasaki India's lineup, this one too embodies the brand's racing DNA. Interestingly, it bears a price tag that surpasses even the Versys 650 adventure tourer and falls just Rs 71,000 short of the considerably larger Z900 Street Naked, which is also powered by an inline-four engine.
Kawasaki asserts that the Ninja ZX-4R delivers a handling experience akin to its larger siblings, the Ninja ZX-10R and Ninja ZX-6R, further emphasizing its performance pedigree.

Ninja ZX-4R: Features And Powertrain
The 4.3-inch colour TFT dashboard, complete with Bluetooth connectivity, acts as our central command hub. It offers a familiar interface, keeps us informed with notifications, and smoothly guides us with turn-by-turn navigation. Additionally, it includes a specialized Track mode for spirited rides. We can effortlessly switch between four preset riding modes: Sport, Road, Rain, and the highly adaptable Rider mode. This Rider mode allows for personalized adjustments to both traction control and power settings, catering to individual riding preferences.
At the heart of this machine lies a 399cc liquid-cooled inline-four engine that packs quite a punch, delivering a robust 80 horsepower with the assistance of ram air (77 horsepower without). The Kawasaki boasts peak power at a staggering 14,500rpm, meaning you'll need to put in some effort to unleash its full potential. It achieves this power through high RPMs rather than relying on torque, with a torque rating of 39Nm.
At the front, it features a Showa SFF-BP suspension unit. The bike utilizes a trellis frame, supported by an inverted fork and a preload-adjustable mono-shock at the rear. These key chassis dimensions take inspiration from Kawasaki's World Superbike Ninja ZX-10RR racer. The Ninja ZX-4R comes with standard Dual-channel ABS and braking is managed by twin 290mm front discs and a single 220mm rear disc. The tire sizes (120/70-ZR17 front and 160/60-ZR17 rear) match those of the larger Ninja 650, albeit with less power.
Verdict
The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R is set to make a statement in the Indian motorcycle market, blending power and sophistication. While it comes at a premium price, its performance and advanced features justify the investment. In our market, the Japanese inline-four powerhouse stands alone, with the Honda CBR650R as its nearest competition.
