Tata Punch CNG AMT and Altroz CNG AMT: Engine Details and Expected Launch Time
The recent debut of the Tiago CNG AMT and Tigor CNG AMT has revamped the Tata stable completely. These are the first cars in the Indian market to be offered with an automatic gearbox and CNG altogether. Now, the Punch and Altroz share the same petrol and CNG engines as the Tiago. Hence, the possibility of a CNG AMT powertrain can not be denied for the Punch and Altroz.
The AMT gearbox is a 5-speed unit that has been combined with the twin-cylinder CNG technology by Tata on the Tiago and Tigor. The part sharing and engine sharing will make it easier to fit the same transmission on Punch and Altroz. The Punch is already in high demand pan India and a facelift of it is planned for a launch soon. However, the Altroz has been doing modest in sales till now.
While there is no confirmation about the launch of these models, we expect that Tata may introduce these in the coming months. No solid date or timeline can be claimed as of now but the pricing will be competitive.
Verdict
CNG fuel option is highly popular across India and especially in Delhi-NCR due to the diesel car ban. With the growing traffic, automatic gearbox convenience among customers have grown rapidly. Hence, the combo of the CNG and AMT is a well executed idea. We would love to see more cars from Tata equipped with this powertrain soon.
