Peugeot 3008 Spied Testing In India For The First Time, But Why?
Peugeot has had decent recognition in the country by its name, which is not necessarily true about its traction in the subcontinent. While we have seen the Peugeot 2008 being test run on Indian roads in the past, the bigger Peugeot 3008 SUV has been noticed testing for the first time in the country. While this sure fuels a lot of speculations and chirps, it is not what it seems like.
Spotted on the roads of Pune, the 3008 SUV was spotted testing alongside the Tata Harrier and the Tata Safari in a single convoy. This likely means that Tata has brought the SUV to India to potentially benchmark it. But the question is why? Well, in dimensions and segment, the 3008 SUV sits harmonically with the Harrier SUV. It hints that Tata might be looking forward to introducing the Harrier and Safari SUVs in the European markets and is studying the Euro-spec models for a better understanding of their needs and standards locally.
More Details
The model at the center of the discussion is the pre-facelift model introduced in 2020. This makes it the second generation 3008 in place of the current 3rd gen model on sale in the European markets. You can see the interiors and exteriors in the spy shots where the logo has been veiled in an attempt to hide its identity which is not the most effective way to do so.
The model is well-equipped with features like a bigger touchscreen infotainment, a fully digital instrument cluster, an electronic parking brake, a 2-spoke steering wheel, and an ADAS suit which is a mandatory add-on in multiple international markets like Australia and more.

However, you do not need to bother much about the things its brings or it misses out on. Simply because this SUV is not coming to the Indian markets. It is simply being tested for benchmarking purposes by the Indian automaker for introducing new products in the international markets.
Verdict
While the SUV has been spied for the first time, it is not making its Indian debut. While Tata seems to be benchmarking the product for introducing the Harrier and Safari in the European markets, it will deliver key pointers for the brand to nail its stint in the global space with a new SUV.
