The KTM Duke 200 is a sporty bike that offers sharp handling and good performance. It also has the latest features and its design turns heads on the road. However, the high price and lack of comfort make it less good for the money. This is especially true when compared to rivals like the Bajaj Pulsar NS200.

Should I buy the Duke 200?

The KTM Duke 200 is an affordable naked sports bike that offers a good combo of striking looks, fast performance, and fuel economy. The engine performs well in the middle and at high revs. The aggressive posture helps in agile handling. Moreover, the strong braking aids the confidence of the rider on broken and undulated roads. However, its engine heats up inside the city traffic and the ride quality is also stiff. We recommend it for buyers looking for a sports bike experience with thrilling performance under a limited budget.

Design & Comfort 8
  • The design of the Duke 200 is very sharp and aggressive. It looks youthful and sporty on the road. Also, it has the same design aesthetics and design elements as the Duke 390. The dimensions of Duke 200 make it look bigger than its actual size. Hence, the on-road presence of it is great.
  • The Duke 200 is a street sports bike. It has a committed riding posture for city riding. The footpegs are set towards the rear while the tubular handlebar is upright. Therefore, the rider triangle of the Duke 200 is meant for short rides only. Over long rides, the hard seat and the lack of space to move results in fatigue.
Performance & Brakings 9
  • The engine performance of the KTM Duke 200 is thrilling in every sense. The liquid-cooled engine offers very good mid-range as well as top-end performance. However, below 2,500 rpm there is a clear lack of torque. It needs to be fixed by half-throttle. The engine is refined. But, there have been reports of vibrations in the mid-range reaching the footpegs and handlebar. Despite this, the engine heat of the Duke 200 is effectively managed and does not pose a significant nuisance during congested traffic conditions.KTM has equipped the Duke 200 with disc brakes at both ends. The braking power of Duke is spot on. The initial bites from the brakes are very nice. Also, even after a long day of use, the brakes do not fade in performance.
Ride & Handling 8
  • KTM has equipped the Duke 200 with a USD front suspension and a preload adjustable rear monoshock suspension. The ride quality through this setup is on the stiffer side. The bike is sporty. This shows during corners. The suspension gives great confidence. On good tarmac, the bike remains calm and pliant. However, broken roads and road cracks are felt on the handlebar. Overall, the suspension is set up for sporty city riding.
  • The handling of Duke 200 is very agile. It feels like a sharp knife cutting through hot butter in city traffic. The agility and low centre of gravity make up for easy lane switches. Also, the low kerb weight helps achieve fast speeds easily. Taking sharp corners and curves is fun on the Duke.
Features & Safety 7
  • KTM has equipped the Duke 200 with all the latest features. It has a digital screen that displays multi-info. Also, it gets Bluetooth connectivity for the smartphones. The LED headlight and 17-inch alloy wheels make it look even better. It also has a USB phone charger for the convenience of the rider.
  • The Duke 200 comes equipped with a dual-channel ABS that works very well in difficult riding conditions. The brakes also offer good feedback and hence the overall safety of the bike is good.

The KTM Duke 200 rivals the Bajaj Pulsar NS200 directly. While both bikes are made by Bajaj, the quality of the KTM is better than the Pulsar NS200. Also, the number of features offered on the KTM is the latest as well as more than the Pulsar NS200. The engine performance of both bikes is identical but the refinement of the Pulsar is better. Also, the Pulsar has a comfortable suspension with an easy riding position. Out of the two, we recommend the Pulsar NS200 due to its lower price tag and better value-for-money package.

Another rival of the KTM Duke 200 is the newly launched Hero Karizma XMR 210. Both bikes serve unique market segments. Yet, they compete for customers due to their similar engine sizes. The Karimza provides a sporty riding stance, greater power, and superior features. However, it is not as refined as the Duke 200. Also, the fit & finish of Karizma is not as good as the Duke 200. The KTM offers better redline performance along with a subtle city riding position. Out of the two, we recommend the KTM Duke 200 due to its refinement and sharp handling.
