Pros & Cons of Yamaha MT 15 BS6
Yamaha MT 15 BS6 Detailed Review
Yamaha MT 15 is a naked streetfighter motorcycle with an aggressive stance. The motorcycle gets a very unique design and it looks apart from other motorcycles in its segment. At the front, the Yamaha MT 15 gets an all-LED headlight with a projector set-up. It is this projector set-up that lends a unique aggressive appeal to the MT 15. The motorcycle also gets LED DRLs that have been positioned in such a way that they appear to be the eye-brows of the motorcycle. The MT 15 has a sporty appeal and there’s no denying the fact that it is a good-looking bike.
Now, while the front-end of the Yamaha MT 15 looks great and gets all praises, its rear-end design isn’t that great. The motorcycle gets a quirky rear-end with a high raised seat that houses the LED taillight and it gets side-mounted grab-rails too. The motorcycle also gets some aluminium inserts on the lower half of the body and it features ten-spoke alloy wheels. The new Yamaha MT 15 BS6 is now available in three colour variants. They are Dark Matt Blue, Metallic Black and the famous International colour shade Ice Fluo-Vermillion. The MT 15 now also gets a new Monster Energy MotoGp edition. In a nutshell, this Dark Warrior looks great and thanks to its aggressive design, it is popularly also known as the Baby Samurai.
Summary
The Yamaha MT 15 is a striking motorcycle. This naked streetfighter gets a lot of fancy elements and grabs eyeballs out on the streets. The MT 15 is also available in several colour variants.
The new Yamaha MT 15 is a naked streetfighter and it has decent proportions. The motorcycle measures 2020 mm in length, it has a width of 800 mm and the bike stands 1070 mm high. The wheelbase of the motorcycle is 1335 mm and it has a seat height of 810 mm, which isn’t very suitable for short riders. The Yamaha MT 15 is best-suited for tall riders. The motorcycle has a massive ground clearance of 170 mm and it has a fuel tank capacity of 10 litres. The Yamaha MT 15 weighs just 138 kgs and thanks to its lightweight character, it is a fun to ride motorcycle.
Summary
The Yamaha MT 15 has good proportions and it is a very lightweight motorcycle. However, its seat height is on the higher side and so it might not be very comfortable for short riders.
The Yamaha MT 15 gets the same BS6 compliant engine that does its duty in the Yamaha R15 too. The Yamaha MT 15 is powered by a BS6 compliant 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine and it gets fuel-injection technology too. This BS6 motor churns out 18.5 PS of maximum power at 10000 RPM and 13.9 Nm of peak torque at 8500 RPM. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The MT 15 also gets Yamaha's VVA or Variable Valve Actuation technology. This high-performance VVA system provides torque for ease of use even at low RPMs. It ensures that a good amount of power and torque is present throughout the entire rev range. The Yamaha MT 15 also offers great performance and is a fun to ride naked streetfighter.
The Yamaha MT 15 is significantly lighter than the R15, thanks to no plastic bits like additional fairing and so it offers great pick-up. The motorcycle accelerates quite rapidly and offers great low-end and mid-range performance. The top-end is also decent but isn’t as great as the R15. That’s because the company has designed the MT 15 in such a way that it turns out to be a more city-friendly motorcycle. The Yamaha MT 15 tops out at around 130 kmph and it offers good fuel economy too. The MT 15 BS6 delivers around 40-45 kmpl of mileage in real world riding conditions. It also gets an assist and slipper clutch which is a nice addition.
Summary
The Yamaha MT 15 offers great performance. It has a good pick-up with great low-end and mid-range punch. The top-end is also decent and it delivers good fuel economy.
The Yamaha MT 15 is based on a deltabox frame. The suspension duties on the motorcycle are performed by telescopic forks at the front and it gets a mono-shock absorber at the rear. The MT 15 offers good ride quality and it has balanced suspension setup. However, its seat is a bit on the firmer side. The braking duties on the motorcycle are handled by disc brakes at both the ends. At the front, it gets a 282 mm disc brake and a 220 mm disc unit at the rear. It also gets a single-channel ABS as an additional safety aid. Yamaha is also planning to soon launch a new dual-channel ABS version of the MT 15 in the Indian market.
The Yamaha MT 15 runs on 17-inch tubeless tyres. The front tyre of the motorcycle measures 100/80-17 while the rear one is a 140/70 section 17-inch unit. Also, it is worth mentioning that the rear tyre of the MT 15 is a radial unit which offers superb grip and aids in the good handling characteristics of the motorcycle. The Yamaha MT 15 also gets an all-digital instrument cluster with a negative display that shows a ton of information. The Yamaha MT 15 displays a digital speedometer, tachometer, odometer, gear-position indicator, gear-shift indicator, etc.
