The HYUNDAI TUCSON is a great family SUV with a macho road presence, sharp cuts and creases, and a great feature list on offer. It offers powerful petrol and diesel engines along with a 4WD option as well though it is not an extreme hardcore off-roader. It has good comfortable cabin seats with great practicality and safety is taken a step further by offering LEVEL 2-ADAS. Overall it is a great choice for young and older generations with great practicality on offer.

Variant Recommendation

author
The Hyundai Tucson is offered in a single petrol and diesel engine with a 4WD option in the diesel engine. It comes with two variants and is the only automatic transmission on offer. So according to us, if you are interested in the petrol variant, then the Platinum variant is a good option for budget-conscious buyers. The Signature variant offers all the features and if you are interested in the LEVEL 2 ADAS safety and a bit more features then you can opt for that as well. The diesel engine has the same case as the Platinum variant. It has all the features on offer but misses on memory function for the driver’s seat, misses on major LEVEL 2 ADAS features. If you opt for the 4WD option, then you get every feature for comfort and safety along with terrain modes as well for the off-road capabilities.

Pros & Cons of Hyundai Tucson

  • Features we admire in this car

    • The futuristic design language is very appealing with sharp cuts and creases.
    • The cabin fit-finish is top-notch and provides premium aesthetics.
    • It comes equipped with some great features both for comfort and safety standards.
    • The petrol and diesel engines are refined and very punchy in performance.
    • Comes equipped with LEVEL 2 ADAS for additional safety and comfort.
    • The 4WD variant is suitable for off-road lovers and performs well off the road.
  • Features that could have been better

    • It is priced a bit on the expensive side.
    • It is only available for 5-seater configuration, 7-seater would have been a better option.

Should I buy the Tucson?

The Hyundai Tucson is a great family SUV. It has futuristic features, bold design, and great safety features like LEVEL 2 ADAS, 6 airbags, EBD, etc. It offers a comfy cabin with premium appeal. The soft-touch materials offer a great premium appearance in the cabin and the endless features list make it a great choice for the buyers. Still, if you wish to consider other options, then Jeep Compass, Citroen C5 Aircross, and Volkswagen Tiguan are in this segment.

Futuristic Looks With Sharp Road Presence 10
  • The design of the Hyundai Tucson is a leap ahead of the previous generation. Now it gets a whole lot more fresh appeal with futuristic cuts and creases and a bold front face. The LED DRLs merge into the grill which is huge and has a lot of chrome on it. The split setup for the headlights gives a macho appearance. The LED headlights give brilliant light at night. The front parking sensors and camera help in parking this huge vehicle.
  • From the side, it has a sloping roofline design language. The sharp cuts and creases on the door panels provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance. The 18” dual-tone alloy wheels are great in design. The subtle use of chrome on the window panel from front to rear adds an extra premium factor to it. The doors open wide and have great in-rest and eg-rest space.
  • Coming to the rear of the Tucson has the same futuristic appearance as the front profile. The dual-LED taillamp provides an elegant appearance. It has a connected treatment and looks very nice at night when lit up. It has a powered tailgate function along with halogen units for indicators and reverse lamps. The boot space is ample enough for your luggage and weekend trips.
Premium Quality Interiors With Great List Of Features On Offer 9
  • The interior of the Hyundai Tucson is a huge step ahead of its predecessors. It has a dual-tone dashboard treatment of black and beige theme. The dashboard has continuous treatment. It flows to the central unit on both sides. They are separated by the 10.25” touchscreen infotainment system. The gearknob resembles the younger sibling Creta and could have been designed better.
  • The interior has a premium appeal. The light color upholstery might be hard to maintain. But, it provides comfort and airiness in the cabin. It pairs with the huge panoramic sunroof. The steering wheel has a slight change in the design and the instrument cluster has a futuristic appearance.
  • Coming to the features front, it has tonnes of features for the user. It has some main features. Features like wireless charging, heated seats, dual-zone climate control, and more are available. It's got everything from wireless connectivity to comfy heated seats.. It has multi-drive modes and 4WD lock modes for the 4WD options.
  • Overall the ambiance of the interiors has a premiumness attached to it. It has a sense of sophistication with the price at which it is offered and it feels like a great space to be in.
Powerful Engines With 4wd Options As Well 9
  • The Hyundai Tucson comes with 2 engines on offer. It offers a 2L naturally aspirated inline 4-cylinder petrol engine and a 2L inline 4-cylinder diesel engine. Both of them have an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission. It misses on the manual transmission and it could have been a great offering for diesel enthusiasts.
  • Talking about power figures, the 2L petrol engine produces 156 BHP and 192 Nm of peak torque. This petrol engine is very refined and smooth in power delivery. This is the same engine that was used to source the Hyundai Alcazar as well. It has good performance and frugal fuel efficiency. In city conditions, it would return about 9-11 km/L depending on the driving style, and highways, it can stretch up to 14-17 km/L as well.
  • The 2L diesel engine has much more performance and feels much more alive to drive. This motor produces 185 BHP and 416 Nm of peak torque. It is a much peppy motor as compared to the petrol engine and has better fuel economy as well. In city conditions, it would return about 13-15 km/L from this motor, and on highways, it can stretch up to 17-19 km/L as well.
  • Coming to its 4WD option, it has a 4WD lock along with different terrain modes on offer. This is only available with a diesel engine and these terrain modes alter the performance of the engine depending on the mode selected. It has SNOW, MUD, and SAND modes for the terrain response system.
  • It even comes equipped with driving modes that alter the engine performance and help to increase the fuel economy. It has ECO, NORMAL, SPORT, and SMART modes that alter specifically depending on the mode selected.
Excellent Seating Comfort With Great Practicality On Offer 9
  • If we consider the seating comfort, then it is a great place to be in. The front row of seats is very comfortable and offers good support. It is a great practical car for your daily driving and on highways, it munches miles very easily.
  • The front row seats are well cushioned and get an electronic adjustment. It has plenty of cup-holders and bottle holders at the front along with multiple storage compartments for your knicknacks.
  • Coming to the rear seats, it is even a much more comfortable place to be in. The knee-room and shoulder room are great. It even has BOSS MODE. In it, the rear passenger can adjust the co-driver seat from behind with buttons on the seat. This enables to increase in the space and area inside the cabin. The cabin is wide enough and the rear AC vents with charging sockets take care of the passengers at the rear seat.
  • The suspension of the Hyundai Tucson is tuned on the softer side. It glides over the bumps and potholes very well and the 18” alloy wheels maintain the grip level. At high speeds, it maintains its line and during off-road, the suspension absorbs the obstacles very well.
  • The steering wheel has a decent feel and feedback on offer. It is very light in city conditions and might feel a bit vague. On highways and at high speeds, it does not inspire confidence and could have been added with artificial weight.

The Jeep Compass is a great SUV in the segment and directly rivals the Tucson. Both possess excellent SUV features, yet the Tucson showcases a modern design, while the Jeep Compass embodies the original Jeep design aesthetic. In terms of length and dimensions, Tucson has an upper edge. It offers more cabin space than the Compass. It has light color upholstery and a massive panoramic sunroof. In features, both are well-equipped, but Tucson stands out by offering Boss mode and a rear seat recline for extra comfort. While both have strong engines, Tucson offers both petrol and diesel options, whereas Compass now comes with a diesel engine. The Tucson has a much stronger diesel engine than the Compass. But, the Compass offers manual transmission, which the Tucson lacks.

The next competition on the list is the very underrated vehicle, Citroen C5 Aircross. It is a great SUV in the segment with exceptional cabin space on offer. In terms of dimensions, Tucson is longer but C5 is wider and has almost the same wheelbase. Both offer extremely great comfort levels inside the cabin, but Tucson goes a step further by offering a BOSS mode. Coming to engines, Tucson has both petrol and diesel engines with a 4WD option as well whereas C5 Aircross misses on a petrol engine and 4WD option. Tucson goes further by offering LEVEL 2 ADAS for safety. It has many other safety features not found in the C5 Aircross.
