Variant Recommendation
The Hector Plus is offered with the same variants as the regular Hector. The Sharp variant has 2 seating configurations. It's a great choice if you want a petrol engine with a good feature list. However, it misses some features like ADAS, auto turn indicators, and ventilated seats. The Savvy variant is the top variant. It has the ADAS for added safety. However, it is not available in the diesel engine. It also lacks an electronic parking brake.
Pros & Cons of MG Hector Plus
Should I buy the Hector Plus?
If you are looking for a full-size SUV with cool features and a massive sunroof, and powerful engines, then MG HECTOR + is a great choice. It is available in two seating configurations. A 6-seater has captain seats in the middle row. A 7-seater has bench seats. Both configurations offer great spacious interiors and good cabin space. If you are looking for a premium experience with luxurious interiors, then MG HECTOR + is the pick for you.
The 2023 Hector Plus retains the same body shell but with changes that make it bolder and sportier. The main exterior change of the facelift is the inclusion of a bigger, bolder front grille. The muscular U-shaped chrome-studded grille on the front fascia blends with the LED daytime running lights. This might be loud for some but does give the Hector Plus a lot of road presence. In order to give the 3 row SUV a sportier look, it also includes a redesigned fog light housing and a faux skid plate. The side appearance of the SUV hasn't changed and it retains the same 18 inch alloy wheels as well. At the back, profile has undergone some small adjustments. The modifications to the rear include a connected tail lamp and new Hector Plus badging in the centre, similar to what we've seen on the Gloster. The LEDs of the connected tail lamps get a very sporty design which MG terms as ‘Blade’. You also get ADAS badging on the body for the top end Savvy variant.
The new 2023 Hector Plus is available in seven colour options. These include Havana Grey, Dual tone white & black, candy white, glaze red, aurora silver, starry black and dune brown.
The dashboard of the facelift Hector Plus has been changed and for starts, gets soft touch material at multiple places. This simply ups the ante in terms of the premium feel. The interior has new air conditioning vent designs, a new engine start-stop button, and an upgraded instrument cluster. It also boasts piano black and faux brushed aluminium embellishments, which give it a premium appearance. The faux brushed aluminium additions are also on the door pads and look up market.
The inside also has many colour choices for the upholstery as well as dual-tone treatment on the door pads, dashboard, and other crucial sections. The centre infotainment system now has a 14-inch touchscreen, the largest in India for its segment and this indeed is the USP here. The top end versions come with excellent infotainment set-up with bass heavy audio output.
The seats gets revised upholstery and the cabin continues to be very airy even for 5 large adults and 2 kids. The comfort levels of the Hector Plus are high but with the last row in place, usable boot space is down to just 155 litres.
When MG had launched the Hector Plus in July 2020, they created benchmarks in terms of standard equipment on offer. For 2023, the Hector Plus simply improves on this front. It gets Level 2 ADAS with as many as 11 functions and the largest screen for any car made in India. And there is a high resolution 360 degree camera, full digital speedometer console, ventilated seats, premium sound by Infinity including subwoofer & amplifier, updated i-SMART, panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, powered front seats (both) and even a PM 2.5 air purifier with AQI & Ionizer.
The walkaway auto car lock / approach auto car unlock is a very handy feature. Other standard features on the top end include cooled glovebox, push button start, leatherette seats etc.
The MG Hector Plus has always been known for a comfortable ride and 2023 version is no different. The company hasn’t altered the suspension or the tyre size which means this new model is also a comfortable companion over typical Indian roads. The steering is also light, thereby making it a good urban vehicle. Likewise, from driver’s perspective, visibility is excellent and even short drivers won’t have a tough time behind the wheel.
The Hector Plus is a long and heavy SUV and this is evident if you attack curves and corners at higher speeds. There is body roll coming in which makes your back off the throttle. But then, this was always meant to be a comfortable family SUV and not an enthusiast’s delight. Overall, the Hector Plus does what most owners want it to - a comfortable big SUV!
