The new Classic 350 is a very good looking neo-retro bike that offers a decent amount of performance as well as a strong road presence. We like the new J-series platform & engine as it is smoother. But, the lack of top-end performance & features makes it less appealing when compared to its rivals.

    • New J-series platform offers great mix of handling & ride
    • Straight-line stability & balance is good for highway riding
    • Design looks beautiful & timeless classic
    • Exhaust note resembles the old thump of the Bullet
    • Fit & finish is one of the best at this price range
    • Seating comfort is very good for long rides
  • Features that could have been better

    • Lacks modern features like digital speedometer
    • No LED lights
    • The top models are pricey
    • Ride quality feels stiff at lower speeds

Should I buy the Classic 350?

The Classic 350 should be your prime consideration if you love old-school retro bikes. It’s a typical roadster and it offers a very beautiful design. The build quality of it is also top-notch and Royal Enfield has majorly ironed all of the flaws of its previous gen. The cherry on the top of the cake is the new J-series chassis & engine. It’s now more vibration-free and more enjoyable to ride. But it is not a fast bike and it still can’t comfortably cruise at triple digit speeds. It is for buyers who want a peaceful riding machine which offers charm & riding pleasure altogether. However, rivals like Jawa & Honda CB350 offer better high-speed performance.

Retro Design with Timeless Appeal 9
  • The main essence of the Classic 350 since its launch is the design. It’s a proper retro bike which provides the appeal of riding an old-school bike. The heritage of the Royal Enfield brand also adds to its appeal. We love how beautiful it looks even when parked roadside. Adding to its appeal are the colour combinations which make it a proper eye candy on the road.
  • There are various small elements which make it looks proper retro. The round headlight with chrome cowl, split seats with removable pillion seat, chrome casing on the engine, & the short barrel exhaust can draped in chrome. All of these elements make it look outstanding & retro.
  • Due to the chrome spoke wheels used, it has no tubeless tyres. Hence, it’s a bit hefty to handle during the case of a puncture. Also, it has no LED lights.
J-Series Platform & New Engine Experience 9
  • The new J-series chassis used from the Hunter 350 has made the new Classic 350 a far better bike than the outgoing model. The build quality & the fit & finish has also improved multiple folds. We love how there are no cheap materials used on the whole bike. Every single part feels rich in quality. The chassis has very less visible robotic welds which make it even more clean in looks.
  • Powering it is the new J-series engine. While the engine capacity & power figures are as same as the outgoing model, it provides a much better experience. The long stroke engine is rich in low rev torque. This means it can easily climb the steep inclines without needing acceleration. Also, the vibrations of the old UC engine are absent on it. Therefore, the highway riding experience is also stress free & relaxing.
  • While we have not tested the fuel economy of this engine, multiple users report that it can easily deliver upwards of 35 kmpl which is very good for its size & weight. Also, all thanks to the new 5-speed transmission, the new bike feels much more user friendly. Speaking of the stress-free cruising speed, it is best used under 90 kmph. Post 100 kmph, the engine runs out of breath.
Ride Experience, Features & Safety 8
  • The specs of the new Classic are the same as the old bike. In terms of front suspension, it gets telescopic forks. The rear gets dual shockers. The combination of these work majorly fine but it is on the sharp undulations and rough roads where you realize that the suspension tuning is on the stiffer side. However, you’ll not feel it most of the times also the rear suspension is a 6-step preload adjustable which you can tune as per requirement.
  • The highway manners are very well controlled. The straight-line stability of the new bike is superb. All thanks to the 18-inch rear wheel & 19-inch front wheel mixed with nicely tuned suspension. The city agility of the bike also good due to the new suspension tuning.
  • Features list on the new Classic is not long. It gets a semi-digital instrument console which has a small digital display. You can see the fuel gauge and the tripmeter as well as odometer on this MID. Rest, it has no Bluetooth connectivity, no LED lights, & no USB charging options as well. Although, you can buy alloy wheels as an accessory if you want.
  • The new-gen Classic 350 is equipped with disc brakes at both ends. The front disc is 300mm while the rear disc is 270mm in size. It comes with a dual-channel ABS option, if you for the top models. But, the base model comes only with a single-channel ABS.

The Classic 350 competes with the newly launched Honda CB350 directly. While both models look identical in terms of retro appeal, the build quality as well as fit & finish is also equal. The only thing that differentiates them is the engine. The J-series engine on the Classic offers superb low-end torque and tractability. It is more user friendly than the long-geared Honda’s engine. While on paper the Honda might look more powerful, the real-world performance of Classic 350 is more usable. Buy the Honda only if you like long-gearing & more features. Otherwise, Classic offers almost everything needed.

The Jawa Standard is another main competitor to the Classic 350. The Jawa offers a proper retro appeal to buyers with chrome parts used in abundance. Also, the features list is more on the Jawa than the Classic 350. Moreover, it gets a liquid-cooled 293cc engine which makes more power than the Classic 350. But, the quality of Jawa is not as good as the Classic 350. Also, the engine performance at low revs is nowhere near to the Classic 350. Also, the long gear ratios of the Jawa make it less easy to use inside the city. Out on the highway, Jawa can outperform the Classic 350 in terms of cruising speed but the mid-range vibrations of the Jawa’s engine are a deal breaker.
