Bajaj Dominar is one of the most affordable hyper tourers one can currently buy in India. The Dominar 400 was first launched in India in the year 2016 and it was loved by all. It became a preferred choice among the biking enthusiasts who love to go on long-distance touring. In 2019, Bajaj launched the Dominar 400 UG, where UG stands for Upgrade. It was unequivocally better than its predecessor but wasn't very accessible to all. So, Bajaj used the cycle parts of the D400, plonked in a 250cc engine and we got a more affordable Dominar called the Dominar 250. The Bajaj Dominar is a very handsome looking motorcycle. Upfront, both these motorcycles get an all-LED headlamp with a small visor. They also get new aerodynamic rear-view mirrors which offer good visibility of what's behind. These motorcycles boast of a muscular styling and get a large fuel tank, sharp tank extensions, an underbelly cowl, etc. Both these motorcycles get a twin-barrel exhaust that produces a soothing exhaust note and also bungee straps on either side of the seat to accommodate luggage while riding as it is a touring machine. At the rear, they get a LED taillamp and the turn indicators are also LED units.

Either of them looks almost identical but there are some minute differences. For starters, the Dominar 250 looks comparatively skinnier and also it gets normal alloys, unlike the diamond cut ones of the Dominar 400. Moreover, the elder sibling gets D400 badges all around while the new family member gets D250 badging. Apart from these cosmetic bits, both the Dominar are completely identical and you can't differentiate between them in a single glance. Both the motorcycles are offered in two colour variants. The new Bajaj Dominar 250 shares its powerplant with the KTM Duke 250. However, the engine has been detuned to produce slightly lesser power and torque and also to improve the fuel economy. It is powered by a BS6-compliant 248.8cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected, 4-stroke, DOHC, 4-valve, twin spark, liquid-cooled DTS-i engine. This motor produces 27 PS of power at 8500 RPM and 23.5 Nm of torque at 6500 RPM. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The ARAI-claimed fuel-efficiency of the Dominar 250 BS6 is 35 kmpl.

Likewise, the Dominar 400 also shares its powertrain with the KTM Duke 390 but produces less power and torque than the KTM. It is powered by a BS6-compliant 373.2cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected, 4-stroke, DOHC, 4-valve, triple spark, liquid-cooled DTS-i engine. This motor churns out 40 PS of power at 8800 RPM and 35 Nm of torque at 6500 RPM. The engine comes coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The ARAI-claimed fuel-efficiency of the Dominar 400 BS6 is 29 kmpl.

The Bajaj Dominar range sits on a beam type perimeter frame. Upfront, the Dominar 250 gets a 37 mm upside-down (USD) forks with 135 mm of travel. While the Dominar 400 gets a chunky 43 mm upside-down (USD) forks with 135 mm of travel. At the rear, both the motorcycle get a multi-step adjustable Nitrox gas-charged mono-shock absorber. Both the Dominars ride on 17-inch tubeless tyres. The front tyre of the D250 measures 100/80-17 while the rear one measures 130/70-17. Whereas, the D400 gets a 110/70 section 17-inch tyre at the front and the rear tyre measures 150/60-17. These tyres provide superior grip and confidence to the rider.

For braking duties, both the motorcycles get disc brakes at either ends. The Dominar 250 gets a 300 mm disc at the front while the Dominar 400 gets a bigger 320 mm front disc. At the rear, both of them get a 230 mm disc and they also get dual-channel ABS as an additional safety aid. Talking about other features, so both of them get a slipper clutch, a fully digital main instrument cluster that displays a ton of information like the digital speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, clock, trip meters, odometer, etc. They also get an auxiliary screen on the fuel tank. The secondary screen of the D400 displays gear-position indicator and mileage figures but the D250 shows only tell-tale lights.
