Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 BS6 Launched; Discover 110, 125 Discontinued

Pune-based home-grown manufacturer Bajaj Auto is known for making versatile motorcycles ranging from entry-level commuters to sports-tourers and even sports-naked. Bajaj has updated its complete Pulsar portfolio to meet the new stricter BS6 emission norms and this week the bike-maker has launched the new 2020 Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 BS6 in India.

The 2020 Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 in its BS6 iteration doesnt get any cosmetic upgrades and looks completely identical to its BS4 counterpart. However, it gets a significant mechanical upgrade and is now more powerful than before. The Pulsar NS 160 BS6 gets the same 160.3cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor as before but has now switched from a carburettor to a fuel-injected system.

The motor in its BS6 era now produces 17bhp of maximum power at 9,000 RPM and 14.6Nm of torque at 7,250 RPM, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. With the transition in BS6-era, the NS 160 produces 1.5bhp more than before which now makes it the most powerful bike in its category. The Pulsar NS 160 BS6 rivals the likes of the Suzuki Gixxer, TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, Yamaha FZ-S, etc.

The Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 is based on a Steel Perimeter Frame and gets telescopic forks at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. The braking duties are handled by discs at both the ends and it also gets a single-channel ABS for added safety. The Pulsar NS 160 BS6 is priced at Rs. 1.03 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi which makes it around 9,000 rupees dearer than the BS4 model.

Meanwhile, Bajaj has bowed out the Discover nameplate from India as it has not been upgraded to BS6. The Bajaj Discover 110 and 125 has been discontinued in India and thus the CT and Platina series are the only affordable commuters left in the Bajajs stable. The discontinuation of the Discover series came as a surprise (rather a shock) as the Discover badge is one of the oldest in the companys portfolio and was in production since the past 16 years across different displacements.
