Is Toyota Taisor The New Rival to Maruti Brezza or 2023 Maruti Baleno Cross?
  • Toyota Taisor will either be the name of an upcoming C-SUV or a crossover
  • We expect it to be powered by two engine options - 1.0L turbocharged petrol and 1.5L non-turbo petrol
  • Expect the product to be unveiled by later this year or early next year

Toyota Kirloskar Motors just launched their new mid-size SUV, Urban Cruiser Hyryder and it is already getting popular. So much so that the waiting period of the same has stretched up to 7 months for some variants. Now, as per reports on the internet, Toyota has trademarked a new name, Taisor, in India.

Will the Toyota Taisor be a new MPV, crossover or an SUV? We either expect it to be the name of the new SUV or a crossover. As Urban Cruiser name has been taken by the mid-size SUV, Hyryder, we believe that the Japanese carmaker will be launching a facelifted model of the Maruti Brezza rival soon.

The facelifted version will be offered with 1.5L, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine. This motor belts out 102 bhp of power with a peak torque of 136.8 Nm. It gets mated to a five-speed manual transmission as standard and a six-speed torque converter automatic as an option.

If not a facelifted Maruti Brezza rival, they could bring a crossover too that will be based on the Maruti Baleno Cross. If this is the case then we also expect it to be powered by a 1.0L turbocharged petrol motor. The official power and peak torque figures are not out but we can expect a five-speed manual gearbox to be offered with the same.

Verdict

As of now, there's nothing confirmed from the Japanese carmaker but we expect the trademarked name to be of a compact SUV or a crossover for sure. With the Maruti and Toyota alliance, the latter has been using loads of rebadged products from Maruti. On the other hand, Maruti is sharing the hybrid powertrain offered by Toyota.
