Launched back in 2014 at a starting price of Rs 6.99 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi, Ciaz instantly became popular because of its pricing and the value for money option. It was first sold via Maruti Arena outlets and later shifted its base to Nexa. Earlier variants were VXi, VXi+, ZXi and ZXi+ which later shifted its focus to Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. The latter follows the monicker series by Nexa. Over the years, Maruti has rejigged several features on the variants along with introduction of newer technologies in the engine and has discontinued some engines too.

The cabin inside sticks with the dual-tone beige and black colour scheme which gives the car a premium look. Also, a bigger touchscreen infotainment system with connectivity features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is on the offer. Maruti also introduced the RS and S limited edition variants which featured an all-black interior theme. The Ciaz is known for its super spacious back seat, which is second to the City in terms of leg room. Comfort levels remain very high.

Engine Options

Pre-Facelift
When it was first launched in 2014, it came with a 1.3L DDiS turbocharged diesel and a 1.4L petrol motor. This 1.3L became an instant hit and delivered a great fuel economy. Just one year into its existence and in 2015, Maruti introduced a hybrid form in this 1.3L unit. That made Ciaz the most fuel-efficient car available in India with an ARAI certified mileage of 28.09 km/l.

Facelift
After a little while, Maruti introduced the in-house developed 1.5L petrol engine in 2018 with its facelift model which replaced the 1.4L unit. The new petrol engine made 103 bhp with a peak torque of 138 Nm. It came with a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque converter unit. The 1.3L diesel continued with a facelift and a marginal price hike.

Later in Mach 2019, Maruti introduced the in-house 1.5L diesel engine which made 95PS and 225 Nm of peak torque while the carmaker continued selling the 1.3L diesel mill. The latter came with a mild-hybrid engine while the bigger 1.5L unit came with more power. The ARAI certified mileage of 1.5L diesel was rated at 26.82 km/l which took a dip from the 1.3L unit. Also, the bigger diesel engine came with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

This new BS6 petrol engine returned an ARAI certified mileage of 20.65 km/l for the 5-speed MT and 20.04 km/l for the 4-speed AT.

It also gets push-button start/stop, leather upholstery, passive keyless entry and cruise control as other features.
