When it comes to electric two-wheelers, the automotive industry sees several new offerings. The Baja Chetak and Ola S1 are amongst the new pioneers in the electric scooter segment. While the former tugs at your nostalgic senses, with a familiar iconic design that will remind you of the Chetaks heydays. The Ola S1 on the other hand is easy on the eyes with a relatively simple design but comes loaded to the brim with modern technologies.  Another factor that differentiates the both is their price tag. The Bajaj Chetak price in Delhi starts from around Rs. 1.00 lakh. This makes it costlier than the Ola S1 which starts from Rs.97,703. Both are available in two variants, and both come with several lucrative body colour options. But why is the Bajaj Chetak expensive than the Ola S1? Lets find that out

The Bajaj Chetaks iconic design will rightfully remind you of the old Chetak scooters. This scooter is built around a steel frame and gets a metal body. The design has evolved and looks contemporary and fresh. The sheet metal body panels look premium, and the LED lighting and indicators with sequential blinking add to its modernity. Bajaj Chetak vs Ola S1: Powertrain

Bajaj Chetak_91wheels_Right profile The Bajaj Chetak is powered by a 3.8 kW continuous electric motor, and an IP67-rated Lithium-ion battery made by Bosch. With this setup, the Chetak produces 4 kW of peak power and 16 Nm of torque. There are two driving modes - Sport and Eco, which determine the range to 85 km and 95 km, respectively. Besides, Bajaj also equips the Chetak with a clever Intelligent Battery Management System (IBMS) that controls the charge and discharge seamlessly. And lastly, the drive type is that of a hub motor. The base Standard variant gets a 2.98 kW battery, whereas the Pro model gets a 3.97 kW battery. Both have their peak power at 8.5 kW, and the torque at the motor shaft for both stands at 58 Nm. When it comes to range, the base Ola S1 can do 121 km in a single charge, whereas, the S1 Pro can do 181 km in a single charge. As far as driving modes are concerned, the S1 gets two, Normal and Sports; whereas the S1 Pro gets an additional Hyper mode to tap the full potential of its bigger battery.

Bajaj Chetak_Instrument cluster Being electric scooters, both are supposed to come loaded with features. With the Bajaj Chetak, the LED headlights with integrated DRLs, and turn signals with sequential blinking do make it modern. But the new fully digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity seals the deal for modernity with the electric Chetak. The cluster is a full LCD unit with a black and white theme. Furthermore, Bajaj has given a clever soft-open feature. This is available with the compartment and seat cover that doesnt drop in a jiffy as it used to in the old models. Instead, it comes down slowly, and the only way to shut down quickly would be by using your hands. To start off, it gets a keyless start function, alongside a 7-inch touchscreen instrument cluster that doubles up as an infotainment system as well. With this set up you can receive and make calls. Theres a voice recognition AI on board, with the help of which you can send messages as well. It also comes with integrated navigation with maps that make navigating unknown roads much easier. You can also create multiple profiles to customise your Ola S1 scooter as per the driving behaviours of different people. Besides, there are also different mood display settings available with the S1 that further amps up the experience.   

Bajaj Chetak vs Ola S1: Price

The Bajaj Chetak is available in two variants. The base Premium model starts from Rs. 1,31, 598 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The top model Urbane starts from Rs. 1,38,992 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Similarly, the Ola S1 is also available in two variants. The base Standard variant starts from Rs. 97,703 (ex-showroom, Delhi), whereas, the top Pro model starts from Rs. 1,27, 667.

Verdict

From the above comparison, the Ola S1 definitely makes more sense. Not only does it have a reasonable starting price, but it also comes loaded with features.
