Variant Recommendation
The Renault Kiger has 2 petrol engines. One is non-turbo and has an AMT transmission. The other is a turbo variant with a CVT transmission. It has 5 variants on offer. So if you are tight on budget and want a compact SUV feel under budget then opt for the base model RXE. If you want basic features like wireless connectivity, automatic climate control, etc then RXT(O) variant is the best choice. This variant comes with both engine options and offers the best value-for-money proposition. Upgrading to the RXZ variant will get you everything but it is at an expensive price.
Pros & Cons of Renault Kiger
Should I buy the Kiger?
The Renault Kiger is a good choice for daily commutes in the city and is a miles muncher for the highways as well. It has good, comfortable seats with practical features. It has frugal non-turbo and turbo petrol engines. They are for both fuel efficiency and performance. The CVT gearbox is smooth in shifts and has decent fuel economy. It has great robustness and it is an under-valued product in its segment. The sales and service network of Renault might be less but indeed it is a great value-for-money proposition over Brezza and Venue.
- The design language of the Renault Kiger is quite similar to the younger sibling Kwid. It has a strong front face with a triple projector setup for the LED headlights, having brilliant illumination at night. The sleek LED DRL has the halogen indicator giving a mixed treatment. The front skid plates give it a sporty element and a great visual appeal. It has a good design which suits both older and younger audiences.
- Coming to the side, it has 16” alloy wheels with red callipers and red inserts to have a better visual appeal. The dual-tone treatment has a great road presence. The built quality is great and the door handles feel solid to use. The subtle roof rails add to the visual appeal and give a more SUV character.
- At the rear, the design language is simple and clean. The C-shaped LED taillamps give a great appearance. The boot space is great for stuffing your luggage for your weekend getaways. The subtle spoiler and silver skid plate enhance the visual appeal and provide a sporty aesthetic.
- As we step inside the cabin of the Kiger, it has a fresh appeal added to it. The fit-finish quality is great but could have been better as compared to the competition. It has an all-black cabin experience and might get claustrophobic to some extent.
- It has many features. They include wireless charging, drive modes, and auto climate control. It also has wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It could have had more features. For example, ventilated front seats and electronic adjustment for both front seats. These features would have helped it stand out in the competition.
- The seats offer good comfort. There are many storage spaces. They have dual-glovebox, multiple bottle holders, and cupholders. These spaces are in the front and rear.
- The Renault Kiger comes with two petrol engines on offer. It has a 1L non-turbo 3-cylinder engine that churns out 72 BHP and 96 Nm of peak torque. This engine has decent performance and comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and an AMT. The engine is decently refined and some vibrations are felt inside the cabin. The engine has normal performance and a turbo petrol engine is a better option over the regular version.
- The second engine is the 1L 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine, which churns out 100 BHP and 150-160 Nm of peak torque. This engine is mated to a 5-speed Manual transmission and a 7-step CVT gearbox which is super smooth in shifts. This engine will return a fuel efficiency of 9-11 km/L in city conditions. This engine has smooth refinement levels and some lag can be felt on sudden throttle inputs.
- There are 3 different driving modes on offer. These modes alter the engine. They do so to a certain extent. They help you to get better fuel economy or better performance. Which you get depends on the mode you are driving.
- When we consider seating comfort, Kiger offers a much better experience in terms of seating comfort and cabin ambiance. The front seats offer great comfort and have a wide cabin so shoulders don’t rub against the passenger seat.
- Coming to the rear seats, it has a much enhanced experience. The rear passenger seat has a flat floor. This makes it very comfortable for 3 passengers. The center armrest and all adjustable headrests take the comfort level a step further.
- The suspension is tuned on the softer side, having great ride quality. It absorbs bumps and potholes very easily and provides a plush experience inside the cabin. At high speeds, the vehicle glides smoothly and some potholes do filter in. It could have been offered with a wider tire option for better grip levels.
- The steering wheel offers a good feel and feedback in the city traffic. It is well-calibrated and performs well on the inputs. At high speeds, it might have some vagueness and doesn’t inspire confidence.
