Tata is scoring high in the Indian market with the safety ratings and also bringing in affordable cars with loaded features. They launched their new SUV, Punch, a couple of months ago and despite some people saying that it looks like the mini Nexon, the SUV has garnered a fair amount of sales. Sure, the prices are a little too much and the top-spec Creative variant of Punch costs the same as the XM variant of the Tata Nexon. Both are priced at Rs 8.39 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. Tata Nexon is longer, wider and taller than the recently launched punch. Both the cars are available with 195/60 R15 tyres, however, Punch comes with alloy wheels whereas Nexon gets steel rims. The impressive part is even with smaller dimensions, Punch's boot space sticks to 366 litres compared to the 350 litres of the Nexon XM. The fuel tank capacity of Nexon is 44 litres and that of Punch is 37 litres.

Both are powered by a 1.2L petrol engine, however, Nexon gets a turbocharger where Punch is powered by a naturally aspirated motor. Even here, Nexon wins over the Punch on paper. The only benchmark of Tata Punch against the Nexon is in its fuel efficiency. The ARAI certified economy of the Punch is 18.97 kmpl whereas that of Nexon sticks to 17.4 kmpl.

As we've mentioned in the title too, this is a feature vs size comparison at the same price of Rs 8.39 lakh. Naturally, the Punch gets in more features than Nexon. However, there are some features where Nexon stands out and those are hill hold control, ESP, traction control, sunglass holder and fully digital instrument cluster. Please note that Tata Punch comes with Traction-pro mode that is available with the AMT versions only.

Verdict
The choice is not that difficult if you ask us. It all depends on what do you need for your daily requirements. Nexon is rugged, packs in a go to anywhere attitude and comes with more safety features than the Punch. It gets decent features on the go and one does not need any aftermarket accessories too with it. However, if you want a new product and it should have all the latest features then Tata Punch is your choice. It has got that SUV stance and bold looks.
