Toyota Fortuner First Look Review - The Top Selling Macho SUV

Ever since its launch in 2009, Toyota Fortuner has been the best selling SUV in its segment. The macho looking SUV has really crafted itself neatly into the second-generation which now looks more sophisticated but still retains the 4x4 character. Also, the brand value of Toyota is such that even with less number of features, it overshadows its rival, Ford Endeavour by a good margin. In this first look review, we will be sharing all about Toyota Fortuner.

Right from its first-gen to the current one, the new Fortuner has grown in size as well as in terms of driveability. Yes, with its earlier models the 2 ton SUV had its niggles of not being handled properly on roads or the guzzling oil burner which wasn't very fuel-efficient. Coming to the exteriors again, the second generation of Fortuner now seems well appreciated and has drastically improved in looks.

The exteriors now gain LED projector headlights, LED DRLs and comes in seven colour options. At the rear, it gets sleeker LED taillights and an electric tailgate.

Interiors and Features

Unlike the earlier-gen, the second generation of Fortuner has improved in looks and now features leatherette upholstery. It now gets updated touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Feature-wise it gets automatic climate control, multi-function steering wheel, electric adjustable and retractable wing mirrors, eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat, one-touch tumble second row, cruise control and among others. Also, it gets paddle-shifters too.

The second-gen Fortuner is also equipped with safety features as it gets 7 airbags, hill hold assist, cruise control, stability control, high-speed alert system, front seat belt reminder, traction control and more.

Engine Options

The second-gen Fortuner comes with two engine options and two drive modes - a 2.7L petrol and a more grunt oil burner. The petrol makes as much as 166 bhp which is same as the Toyota Innova Crysta. This one gets both manual and automatic transmission.

The 2.8-litre diesel which is a more powerful engine with optional 4WD mode makes as much as 177 bhp with 450 Nm of peak torque. It gets a 6-speed manual and an optional 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Price and Competition

The BS6 version of Toyota Fortuner starts from Rs 28.68 lakh and the top model fetches till Rs 36.90 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. It competes with Ford Endeavour, Isuzu MU-X, Mahindra Alturas G4, Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, Honda CR-V and upcoming Skoda Kodiaq.
