Priced from Rs.1,67,800 (Ex-Showroom, Delhi), the 2021 Yamaha R15 is available in two variants - V4 and M. The new motorcycle offers several upgrades over the R15 V3 that we'll discuss here

Launched earlier today, the Yamaha R15 V4 has suddenly become the talk of the town with its R7-inspired styling and many features that it offers over the R15 V3. Another highlight of the new motorcycle is the sportier M variant, which, at roughly Rs 10,000 higher, offers an additional kit that promises to enhance the riding experience of all those in search of an entry-level track tool. Here, we have a 2017 Yamaha R15 V3 vs 2021 Yamaha R15 V4 vs 2021 Yamaha R15M comparison to give you an idea of how different are the three motorcycles.

2017 Yamaha R15 V3 vs 2021 Yamaha R15 V4 vs 2021 Yamaha R15M - Price Comparison

The 2017 Yamaha R15 V3 made its India debut at the Auto Expo 2018, where it was introduced into the market at Rs 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom). Over, the years, it got costlier but the R15 V4, at almost Rs 1.68 lakh (ex-showroom), is almost Rs 20,000 dearer than the model it has replaced. Meanwhile, the R15M is even more expensive at close to Rs 1.78 lakh (ex-showroom).

The sticker price for the R15M touches Rs 1.80 lakh (ex-showroom) in case you go for the limited edition Monster Energy Moto GP Edition variant. So, basically, the new motorcycle is substantially costlier than its predecessor, especially when you compare the V3 with the M version. However, the additional kit works well to justify this increment.

Yamaha R15 V4 And R15M
The 2021 Yamaha R15 V4 and R15M have been launched at Rs 1.68 lakh and Rs 1.78 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively.

Specs and Features

After a wait of many years, the Yamaha R16 has finally received the much-desired golded-finished USD front forks on both the R15 V4 and R15M. The rear suspension, though, stays the same as before and is a monoshock unit. Braking is courtesy of disc brakes at both ends that are assisted by a dual-channel ABS. The motorcycle has also gained an all-digital instrument console that offers Road and Track modes to allow the user to switch to data as per the usage conditions. Another addition comes in the form of the motorcycle manufacturer's Y-Connect Bluetooth system.

The R15M even gets traction control while the Racing Blue version of V4, as well as the R15M, offer a quick shifter. The 6-speed transmission though has been carried over from the V3. The R15M even offers a different seat, BYBRE brake callipers. Also, the latest version looks a lot sharper and racier than its predecessor, which is courtesy of the R7-inspired styling theme.

Launched at Auto Expo 2018, the Yamaha R15 V3.0 has bowed out of the market but has donated its engine and transmission to the R15 V4 and R15M.

Even the powerplant has been carried over from the previous model. Like the predecessor, the Version 4.0 and M model come with a 155cc, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, SOHC, 4-valve engine that produces a maximum power of 18.4 PS at 10,000rpm and a peak torque output of 14.2 Nm at 7,500rpm. This motor even benefits from Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). As we said, the motor comes mated to the 6-speed manual transmission from the earlier motorcycle, while the quick-shifter comes into action at speeds above 20 kmph and at engine speeds above 2,000 rpm.
