Pros & Cons of Bajaj Pulsar RS 200
Should I buy the Pulsar RS200?
The Pulsar RS 200 stands out as a top choice for young buyers craving high performance at a great value. Its aggressive and appealing styling exudes confidence. Plus, it boasts an impressive liquid-cooled engine with powerful mid-range and redline performance.. Also, the riding experience of it is user-friendly. However, it lacks features and the quality is also not as good as its rivals. We recommend it to buyers who want a fast bike on a tight budget.
- The design of the Pulsar RS 200 has to be the most attractive in Bajaj’s portfolio. Despite of being old, it still looks bold and aggressive on the road. You can surely not mistake it on the road for another bike. Also, the front with a dual-projector headlight setup looks mean and appealing to youth. We also love the good colour & graphics combo.
- The Pulsar RS 200 is a sporty bike. The riding stance is also sporty. The rider's footpegs are positioned backwards. The clip-on handlebar encourages leaning towards the front. This design gives the bike a commanding and comfortable position. Therefore, it is best suited for city use rather than touring.. Although the rider gets enough space to move, it is still aggressive to sit & ride.
- The Pulsar RS 200 has a liquid-cooled, short-stroke engine. It is designed for fast and thrilling performance. So, by the nature of it, the low-end performance is a bit compromised. Once you pass the low-end, the mid-range has plenty of power to stay ahead of traffic. The redline performance is exceptional. It makes the bike feel larger. The engine stays cool. Yet, there are slight vibrations in the mid-range. You can only feel them when accelerating hard on the footpegs.
- The Pulsar RS 200 is not designed for fuel economy. But, it is still one of the best bikes in its segment for economy. In our tests, we’ve got more than 38 kmpl in the city with hard riding.
- Surprisingly, the suspension of the RS 200 is a bit too stiff. It has a telescopic unit at the front and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear it feels very stiff. Only on good roads, one can feel confident and comfortable. Over the bad roads and cracks, the suspension sends everything to the handlebar and footpegs. So, it is not a very comfortable bike for touring but for city use it is decent.
- The Pulsar RS 200 is all about agility & sharp handling. The handling of it is very sharp & spot-on. Riders can easily flick the bike in the city traffic. Around the sharp curves & bends, it offers great confidence to lean. Moreover, high-speed riding is also confident due to better stability. The fairing helps in cutting the air drag to an extent on the highway.
- The braking of the Pulsar RS 200 is confidence-inspiring. The initial bite is strong from the brakes. There is no sogginess and the brakes provide good feedback even after a long duration ride. The brakes are good & friendly for the new riders.
- The Pulsar RS 200 was the first in its segment. It had features like dual-projector headlamps. But, Bajaj has not updated it for a long time. Now, it lacks modern connected features that rivals like Yamaha R15 V4 offer. We wish Bajaj gave it a makeover and add the latest features to it like ride modes, etc.
- Safety-wise, it gets a dual-channel ABS as standard. The calibration of it is well done and the brakes offer a strong bite. The bike remains confident to ride on loose surfaces like gravel and sand.
