Variant Recommendation
Honda Shine was recently updated for MY2025, where its 125cc engine is now OBD-2B compliant, and it also gets a new digital LCD display. Plus, it uses new 90mm rear wider tyres. Also, this bike’s colour lineup has been updated. Available in two variants - Drum and Disc, the price difference between the two is roughly Rs 4,500. So, going for the front disc variant is more sensible as it's higher on the safety factor. Lastly, it costs Rs 89,245.

Expert Verdict on Shine
Honda Shine is best suited for buyers who want a family commuter bike. It offers good ride quality, a reliable engine, and high fuel economy. But it has an old design, very few features, and the braking is also not as good as the competitors. The pricing of the disc brake variant is on the higher side, despite being less equipped with features.

Pros & Cons of Honda Shine
Should I buy the Shine?
Honda Shine is undoubtedly one of the oldest & most reliable bikes in the 125cc segment. Honda’s superb build quality and comfortable riding position is the prime reason behind its sales. Additionally, its engine is very smooth and offers a very good fuel economy inside the city. But, its design is not aggressive which means its road presence is not as good as the rivals like the TVS Raider 125 or the Bajaj Pulsar 125. If you want a comfortable city commuter bike, Honda Shine is one of the best options to buy.
- The design of Shine is very neutral. It is a complete family bike in terms of looks. The sleek design of it helps with easy handling in city traffic. Also, due to its design, the resale value of Shine is very good in the second-hand bike market. Due to its simple and elegant design, it is one of the first choices of customers in this segment.
- The single seat on it is very comfortable as well as cushioned. The seat of Shine gives ample space for the rider as well as the pillion. Also, the riding position is very comfortable because of the relaxed handlebar and footpeg. In fact, you can ride it easily for long hours with a pillion without getting tired.
- The strongest point of the Shine is its superb quality. The build quality is very rich, and the plastic panels used have no gaps. The overall materials used on it are of good quality, and the bike doesn’t vibrate even after years of use. We also love the fitting of panels and the finishing of the paint quality of the shine.
Shine body specifications:
Seat Height | 791 mm |
Weight | 114 kg |
Wheel Size | 18 inch |
- The engine performance of Shine is one of the best in the segment. This engine is very refined and smooth to operate. Also, the 5-speed transmission is slick and easy to use. Additionally, the clutch is very light and has a short throw that helps with city riding. It’s not a fast bike like the rival TVS Raider 125, but it offers ample performance for everyday use. It's only on the highway where you need to plan before overtaking it.
- Apart from the smoothness, this engine is very user-friendly to fix. The service costs of Shine are very minimal, and the spare parts are also cheap to buy. Moreover, its engine remains intact even after years of use, as reported by the users on our website.
- The ARAI-claimed fuel economy of Shine is above 65 km/l. In our tests, we noticed that it can easily deliver more than 55 kmpl inside the city if ridden sedately. If used on an open road, the engine has the potential to provide more than the claimed mileage.
Shine engine specifications:
Mileage | 55 kmpl |
Engine Displacement | 123.94 cc |
Top Speed | 102 kmph |
Power | 10.63 bhp @ 7500 rpm |
Torque | 11 Nm @ 6000 rpm |
- The suspension of Shine is very well-tuned for Indian roads. It is neither too soft nor too stiff. The bike remains plaint for most of the time irrespective of the road conditions. It is only on the off-road where you’ll feel that the suspension is working hard to keep the bike comfortable. For city use, highway use, & rural use; Shine offers the best ride quality. Also, with pillion or luggage, the ride quality doesn’t get affected much.
- The braking of the Shine is just adequate. It is one of the places where Honda should work on this bike. Offered with the options of Drum brakes & Disc brakes, we recommend the Disc version. The drum brake version has moderate braking at speeds above 60 kmph. However, the disc brake version still offers better bite. Overall, the braking is not as good as some of the rivals.
- The Honda Shine offers very few features when compared to its competitors. It comes with halogen lights and an analogue instrument console. There are no modern features on offer like Bluetooth connectivity, USB charging, etc., which the rivals offer.
- On the safety front, it is offered with the option of a disc brake variant. We recommend buying the disc brake version due to its good stopping power. The drum brakes on Shine don’t help with confidence. There are no safety features like a Combined Braking System or a single-channel ABS

Latest On Honda Shine
Last Updated on 4th Apr'25: Honda has recently launched the 2025 version of the Shine, featuring a more efficient engine and new enhancements. This update includes a digital LCD instrument cluster that displays the distance to empty, service reminders, real-time mileage, an Eco indicator, and a gear position indicator. Additionally, it offers a Type C charging port for greater convenience. The new model retains the same 123.94cc engine, which is now OBD-2B compliant. The Honda Shine is available in two variants: Drum and Disc, with introductory prices of Rs 84,493 and Rs 89,245, respectively (all prices are ex-showroom).
Honda Shine is a popular commuter bike that has been sold in the country since 2006. This two-decade-old bike has now lost its popularity, as there is nothing exciting left about it. The Shine legacy is carried forward by the SP 125 brand, but that too struggles to maintain a good sales record. Its USP continues to be its buttery.smooth 125cc engine.
