Maruti Suzuki E Vitara Latest Update
Last Updated on 30th June'25 : Maruti Suzuki has drastically slashed its production targets for the e-Vitara EV by nearly 69 percent for the April-September 2025 period, reducing output from 26,500 to just 8,200 units. The move stems from a global shortage of rare earth elements - especially those needed for EV motors - due to China’s tightening export controls. Despite this setback, Maruti remains committed to meeting its annual goal of 67,000 units by March 2026 by ramping up production in the second half of the fiscal year, targeting 58,700 units. Maruti has also scaled down its long-term sales forecast and EV lineup, signalling strategic recalibrations amid ongoing supply challenges and mounting pressure in the electric mobility space.
Maruti Suzuki has massively reduced its initial production target for the upcoming e-Vitara EV due to a critical shortage of rare earth materials - a result of China’s export restrictions. Production between April-September 2025 is now expected to be just 8,200 units instead of the originally planned 26,500. This disruption could delay exports to Europe & Japan and signals a tight EV race in India, where Tata and Mahindra are already leading.
