Just recently, we spotted the Tata Curvv ICE variant doing test rounds on the roads and now the Tata Curvv EV has been spotted at a charging station, juicing up what looks like after a long day. The biggest giveaway is the front grille mounted charging socket. You can clearly see the electric SUV being charged at a booth. The socket being placed in the center is in our opinion a better option than on any single side as it adds to the ease of charging where you are not always aligning the port and the charging booth.

Apart from this, you get the usual Curvv that the brand has displayed in the past at the Auto Expo and the Bharat Mobility Show. You get a distinct sloping roofline for a Coupe SUV body frame. While it adds to the sporty essence, the high ground clearance keeps the practicality of an SUV. Tata Curvv is carving out a new segment of premium affordable Coupe SUVs but it is not alone in this.

Citroen Basalt, a Coupe SUV has been globally revealed and it hits the same segment. Both these SUVs will go head to head in this nascent segment of the market that also rubs shoulders with the compact conventional SUV segment. The Curvv EV goes big on tech and the expected list includes a Level 2 advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS), a 360-degree surround camera, along with a blind spot monitor. Inside, the focus is on comfort and convenience with a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charging pad, ventilated front seats, a twin-spoke steering wheel featuring an illuminated logo, and dual 12.5-inch screens for the infotainment system and instrument cluster.

Expected Powertrain Options: EV And ICE

The Curvv will offer diverse engine options. First up, there's the EV with an impressive range of around 500 kilometers on a single charge. That's perfect for folks who want to ditch the gas station. But if you're still looking for a gasoline-powered option, Tata will also offer an internal combustion engine (ICE) Curvv. This one will sport a brand new 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine that cranks out 125 horsepower and 225 Nm of torque. Tata might pair this engine with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox to channel all that power, similar to what they use in the latest Nexon facelift.

Verdict

The Curvv EV will launch first followed by the ICE variants. The launch will kick-off a whole new era of compact SUVs in the Indian market with buyers waiting for something new. If the pricing is kept reasonable, it poses serious threat to the regular SUVs, even the ones at the top.
