Land Rover Defender Octa Coming Soon: The Beast Evolves
While major details remain behind the curtains, the upcoming Land Rover Defender Octa is going to be powered by a new twin-turbo 4.4 liter V8 engine under the hood. This makes it the most powerful of the lot yet. The new V8 twin turbo-charged engine will be used in place of the current supercharged AJ unit on the current models. The brand claims that the model is going to be the most powerful and is currently being tested under extremely rigorous conditions.
The OCTA moniker gets its legacy from the octahedron structure of the diamond signifying its rock-solid nature, highlighting the nature of the Defender brand. The strategic use of titanium around the SUV enforces its resilience and robustness. The brand also states that it will be the first time ever that it will utilize the '6D Dynamic' suspension from Range Rover Sport SV. It links the dampers front to rear and from side to side with the use of hydraulics for active control over the SUV's roll and pitch without the use of an actual anti-roll bar.
Mark Cameron, Managing Director, Defender, said: The Defender OCTA name and signature graphic are representative of the vehicles strength, resilience, and desirability inspired by the vehicles diamond-like tough luxury credentials. The new signature graphic is particularly significant as it will be the first time it is seen on a Defender and it will identify all flagship Defender models in the future.

Powertrain
In terms of mechanics, this is going to be the most powerful Defender ever. While it is revealed that it will feature the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, it is likely to be the BMW-sourced unit already employed in some models of the Range Rover including the SV. There, it puts out 618hp power with a peak torque of 800Nm. Accelerating this heavy SUV, it clocks 0-100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds.
This top-spec SUV is slated for debut later this year where it will be positioned at the helm of its range.
Verdict
Land Rover Defender name is one of the legacy SUVs that is known for its off-road prowess like none other. While it offers the occupants enough luxury, the outer shell is capable of taking solid beating and getting through anything in its way. While it currently offers enough power to tread any path, the V8 is sure to push it to greater heights of performance.
