In the recent blow to the Indian Automotive Industry, the popular UV Indian carmaker, Mahindra & Mahindra has announced that both the KUV100 NXT and the Marazzo will be out of production. The reason cited for this harsh step is because of the poor sales.
Currently, the Indian market is inclined towards the SUV market, such that the most affordable SUV in the country is the Kiger from Renault. The sticker price of the Kiger is priced as low as Rs 5.45 lakh. Considering the KUV100 NXT that is a micro SUV, the price starts from Rs 6.10 lakh and fetches Rs 7.66 lakh mark. All prices stick to ex-showroom, Delhi.
Mahindra KUV100 NXT has been in the market for many years and the USP was its 6-seater options. It came with a diesel engine too but because of the stringent BS6 norms, it had to be axed out. And now, the KUV100 NXT altogether will phase out soon in no time. The sales were drastically declining ever since it got launched. In fact, only 21 units of the KUV100 NXT was sold in 2021.

Considering the Mahindra Marazzo then it is one powerful MPV that made its way between Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova Crysta. Offering both comfort, features and performance, it was brought in a huge number since its launch. However, the sale significantly dried out and for 2021, the figures stand at just 711 units. Comparing with the competition then, Toyota sold 19,300 units of the Innova Crysta whereas Maruti sold 37,286 units of the Ertiga. The latter comes in petrol option only but still, the sales are away higher.
Earlier, the plan was to introduce a 1.5L petrol engine option too in the Marazzo to attract buyers. However, this is now dropped down. The 1.5L, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel unit of Marazzo generates 121 bhp at 3500 RPM with a peak torque of 300 Nm at 1750 RPM. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission only.

In other news, Mahindra is gearing up for the launch of several SUVs like the Bolero dual-colour, new-generation Scorpio and the XUV700. They have also confirmed that the XUV500 will temporarily be discontinued. The re-launch will happen in 2024 and then it will give a tough competition to the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
