Mercedes-Benz India is planning to bring a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine for the C 300 sedan in the Indian market. According to a media report, the brand will replace the C 300d with the new petrol engine and the diesel engine will be discontinued. The upcoming petrol version is expected to get a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology. This engine is expected to produce 258 bhp of power and 400 Nm of peak torque. This engine will provide an additional 23 bhp of power with the mild-hybrid setup. A 9-speed automatic transmission is expected to be mated with this engine.

The brand might also increase the ground clearance of the vehicle by raising the suspension a bit. The C-class currently comes in three variants namely C 200, C 220d, and C 300d. The C 200 is currently the only petrol engine on offer. With the launch of the C 300 petrol, the lineup will only have a single diesel engine and two petrol engine options.

The new petrol variant is expected to make its debut in the second half of the year. The pricing is expected to be around Rs 62 lakh (ex-showroom). The current lineup starts at Rs 60.85 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 62.70 lakh (ex-showroom).

The demand of petrol vehicle is increasing in metro cities like Delhi-NCR where diesel ban is a concern for the car owners. The luxury car market is seeing a shift from diesel to petrol adoption due to this.
