Causes Of Engine Noise While Driving The Car - All Details!

Some unnerving sounds are coming from the engine which can emerge while you are driving on the road, which can make you worry and impact your drive. Luckily, as worrisome they might sound, the causes of engine noise are usually related to wear and tear of simple mechanical components which are easy to rectify or replace.

Causes Of Engine Noise

Following are the four main causes of noises which do emerge from the engine of the car while driving:-
1. Worn out pulley bearings Pulleys are one of the fastest moving parts not only in the engine but also in the entire vehicle when taken into consideration. Even slight damage caused to the pulley can increase with the rapid rotation of the pulleys, which can directly cause damage to the bearing, resulting in a formation of noise, in the form of a whining sound.

2. Worn out alternator There are bearings present inside the alternator, the main function of which is to utilize the power produced from the engine and convert it into electrical energy for the functioning of electronics in the car. With time, these bearings of the alternator do wear out, due to which there is a loud whine which generates out of the alternator.
3. Worn-out belt tensioners In the current cars in which automatic belt tensioners for the fan belt of the engine. With time, either these belt tensioners do wear out or the bearings, which are present inside. This does cause a loud whine as a result, and as a remedy, you can either get these belt tensioners checked or get them or the bearings replaced.

4. Worn out drive belt This is one of the most common factors for the noise produced by the engine. Drive belts such as fan belt and timing belt are made up of rubber, which loses their elasticity and construction with the passage of time, the main symptoms of which are a development of cracks or increase in length. This wear and tear also result in causing of continuous noise, with the replacement of the concerned belt being the optimum solution.
