Tips to Keep Your Cars and Motorcycle Safe This Diwali

Diwali is around the corner, and here are some tips to keep your car and motorcycle safe, and also avoid any accidental damages.

Now that the pandemic has loosened up a lot, Diwali in 2021 should be celebrated with a lot of zeal. And given how the auto market is flooded with exciting offers, buying a new car or bike is definitely on the minds of some Indians. However, Diwali is not just the festival of lights, theres also a lot of explosions and bursting of firecrackers.  It might seem like a harmless fun activity, but a catastrophe can occur very easily.  And most of the time, cars or bikes parked outside end up as a casualty. So, to prevent such  a callous activity from occurring, here are some tips to keep your cars and motorcycles safe this Diwali.

Tips to Keep Your Cars and Motorcycle Safe This Diwali

Park Under Covered Area

During Diwali, avoid leaving your car in such open parking lots

Nuisance can happen anywhere at any time, and the chances of that happening to your car will be minimal if it is parked away in a safe spot. Hypothetically speaking, if your car does have oil leakage problems, and your favourite mechanic is inaccessible. Then, at least keep it indoors, preferably in the garage. And if youre living in a complex where theres no covered area, then park it under a tree or away from the scene, at least. Just like you wouldnt want unwanted rocket barge into your house, you wouldnt want the same for your car as well, right?

Avoid covers

While a cover protects your car from dust and other harmful elements in normal circumstances, it's a huge fire hazard during Diwali.

This is for those who dont have the option of an indoor garage. If youre parking your car on the side of a kerb, safe under a tree. Do not leave it parked covered. Car covers might be good at repelling water, but they are not fire-resistant. If keep your car covered, and by accident it catches fire, then by the time you reach the scene it will be too late. For your car will be charred.

Keep Windows Shut

Kids will be mischievous, but the mischief has no age. So, make sure that you keep your car protected when leaving it parked outside for the night. Also, drive with the windows up. As we mentioned before about the air during Diwali, you wouldnt want that in your cars cabin. If it does so, then the toxic elements from that air get accumulated in the fabrics on the roof, seats and in some cases, the dashboard. This creates toxic air which if left unattended can be very hazardous.

A garage is the safest option to park a car during Diwali.

Thorough Check for oil leaks or window cracks

Oil dripping is a serious problem that should be immediately addressed

Before Diwali begins, do a thorough check-up of your car, make sure theres no oil dripping. Oil leaks have many causes, like degraded engine gaskets, or leaks from oil pans. Oil can also leak if the drain plug of the oil pan is missing or if the valve cover gasket has deteriorated. Before Diwali, ensure that your car is fixed of these problems. Other times, your car might also have small cracks on the windowpane, which are very subtle. Given how the density of air increases during Diwali, that in effect creates pressure, which can force the toxic air into your cabin via those small cracks. So stay alert and do take the necessary precautions.

Ensure air-filter is clean/ replaced

As we mentioned in the last point, the quality of the air during Diwali deteriorates and this puts pressure on the cabin air filter, especially. If the filter is not replaced after Diwali the quality of the air inside the cabin will further deteriorate. Normally, the cars cabin should get enough air from the AC, and when the air filter is clogged youll find yourself cranking up the AC higher than usual. This leads to increase energy consumption, which in turn leads to a decline in the vehicles optimal efficiency.

Keep extinguisher handy

Having a small handy extinguisher inside your car is very important. There are a lot of fire sparks from crackers bursting on the side of the kerb. These sparks are harmless for sure, but nothing with fire can be sure, right? And the residual sparks from that small explosion can be potentially dangerous, mostly for the upholstery inside the cabin. In such situations, to prevent matters from escalating any further, a small handy extinguisher will keep it under control. They are easily available online for prices between Rs 300 -  2500.

Be alert while driving

Diwali is a festival for everyone. You might enjoy a nice evening drive to your favourite restaurant with your family, while some other people might want to do the same by bursting crackers on the road. So, you will have to stay alert and keep a lookout and steer away from such celebrations. For you dont want any unwanted bomb bursting near your vehicle that can leave a mark on the body panel or crack the window panes. Or an unwanted accident, as well. Better be safe than sorry.

Don't Drink and Drive

Yes. We hear you and we do agree that celebrations do need a bit of indulgence. Theres no harm in that, as long as you dont become the nuisance. If you have plans to go outside or are invited to a gathering, where there will be drinks - avail cab service instead of taking your car out.

Handy First Aid

Having a first aid kit box in your car is in general a good idea. Aside from the fact, that it will be very handy in all types of accidental situations. And if you have one, then do make sure that it has the necessary medicines and ointments to treat skin burns.
