So how do the two SUVs from Tata Motors actually stack up against each other?

1. Powertrain options - For the starters, the Safari and the Harrier both come with a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that is sourced from Fiat. Tata Motors calls it the Kryotec 170. This engine puts out healthy numbers of 170 BHP and 350 Nm and is mated to either a 6 Speed Manual or a 6-speed Hyundai-sourced Automatic gearbox. So there is not really much to differentiate between the two here.

2. Interiors and Space - Both the Harrier and the new Safari are once again pretty much on an even keel when it comes to the interiors. The basic layout of the dashboard remains similar for both the cars. However, it is the Safari here which gets an added edge over the Harrier when it comes to the flexibility offered due to the extra two seats in the former vehicle.

It is also important to note that while the Safari offers a meagre 73 litres of boot space with all the 3 rows up, the boot space increases to a massive 447 litres when the 3rd row is folded. However, the Harrier too has 425-litre boot which won't be too much of a compromise.

3. Features - The Harrier and the Safari are the top dogs of the Tata Motors' stable and expectedly both the cars are loaded to the brim in terms of features. However, upon comparing the two, the Safari does have some additional features which although not so necessary for day to day usage might just end up appealing to the customer.

For instance features such as connected car tech, electronic parking brake, and 18-inch alloy wheels are currently going to be specific only to the Safari at the moment, however, there are chances that the Harrier might receive these features in the future.
