Check Airbag Light On Without Airbag Deployment - Check All Reasons!

The modern cars that we have come equipped with a number of the advanced systems which indicates the driver of a possible problem with any of the components in the vehicle. Similarly, the instrument console of the car too has a check airbag light which glows when an airbag is deployed. However, it is not only when your car has met with an accident and the airbags get deployed when the airbag check light in the instrument console of your car will glow. There are certain errors which can happen in various systems of your car and lead to glowing on of the check engine light of the car.

Following are those reasons due to which the airbag check light might pop up without airbags getting deployed:-
1. Seat belts not buckled up In many cars, the airbag check light doubles up as the light for seat belt warning as well. If you have not buckled up the seat belt after you start driving, chances are that the airbag check light will glow and will stop glowing once you wear the seat belt.
2. Deactivated airbag system The most common reason behind this is that either the seat crash sensors for either driver or passenger airbag (or both) have gone faulty. This will trigger a warning in the instrument console through the electronic control unit.

3. Improper instalment of airbags This problem arises when your car has met with an accident once and has its airbags deployed. If the airbags or the parts related to it such as crash sensors or other SRS components are not re-installed properly, a proper synchronization between the sensors and airbags will not be established.
4. Small impacts There are also instances when your car meets with a slight impact with a wall or other passive car, in which the crash sensors emit information to the electronic control unit but airbags are not deployed. In this case, instead, the airbag check light will start glowing.

5. Water damage to internal components Primarily a case when the car suffers from flood damage, this problem arises when the components of the airbag system, primarily the crash sensors, get damaged or corroded by water. Due to this, the crash sensors might become dysfunctional, which will be signalled to you via the airbag check light.
