KTM is an Austrian motorcycle brand popular in the Indian two-wheeler market. The brand is known for producing uber-cool performance-oriented motorcycles that are affordable. KTM had ventured into the Indian market in the year 2012 under the partnership of Bajaj Auto. Since then the brand has been presenting Indian motorcycle enthusiasts with mean machines that are fully race-ready.
KTM made its India debut with the introduction of the Duke 200 in 2012. Soon after its launch, the motorcycle paved its way to becoming an undisputed leader in the 200cc motorcycle segment. It was one of the naked 200cc bikes that were track-focused yet a hardcore daily utility-based machine in India. Two years later, in 2014, KTM decided to spice up things with the launch of a supersport bike under the RC badge- the KTM RC 200. The RC 200 looked aggressive, had razor-sharp handling and a powerful engine that was not meant for the faint-hearted. This motorcycle was a recipe for pure racing madness, hence, became a fan favourite among youngsters in India.
In 2020, with the BS6 regulation kicking in, KTM revamped the RC 200 with minor cosmetic updates and an upgraded engine that was BS6 compliant. The same was carried on to 2021 since the motorcycle already looked contemporary and relevant in time. Currently, due to the aforementioned characteristics and performance, the KTM RC 200 is a strong contender in the 200cc faired motorcycle segment and challenges the likes of the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, Apache RR 310 and Bajaj Pulsar RS200.

Pros & Cons of KTM RC 200 2020
KTM RC 200 2020 Detailed Review
KTM RC 200 BS6 has a distinctive design language. It comes with an aggressive design and has a sharp-looking character that gives it a sporty stance. The RC 200 comes with a sporty touch in terms of design and has a dynamic appearance. The motorcycle has sharper contours across the body that make it look pretty stylish. As a matter of fact, the RC 200 looks similar to its elder siblings like the KTM RC 390, making it a much more premium-looking motorcycle that is available at a relatively lesser price.
At the front, the RC 200 gets twin projector headlamps and DRLs with a winglet-type design that add to the premium look and aggressive character of the vehicle. The motorcycle also gets a neat looking clear visor along with the sharp cycle parts. In addition to this, the motorcycle gets low clip-on handlebars and a raked-up rear subframe that adds to the sportiness.
Apart from the aforementioned characteristics, the RC 200 rolls out of the factory floor with an edgy and aerodynamically designed fairing. The motorcycle also gets graphics on the fairing and tail section which boosts the design’s efficacy intended by the brand. Also, it gets a triple-tone treatment on the body and alloy wheels finished in KTM's signature orange colour.
At the rear, the motorcycle gets ultra-stylish LED tail lamps too. Finally, to add on to the design quotient, the RC 200 comes in two different colour schemes that customers can choose from- Dark Galvano and Electric Orange.
Summary
The new KTM RC 200 looks uber-cool and has a good road presence. The RC 200 is available in two different paint schemes that give the motorcycle a killer look- Dark Galvano and Electric Orange
RC 200 2020 body specifications:
Seat Height | 820 mm |
Weight | 154 kg |
Wheel Size | 17 inch inch |
Fuel Tank Capacity | 9.5 liters |
The new KTM RC 200 measures 1,980 mm in length, 688 mm in width and 1,098 mm in height. The motorcycle has a wheelbase of 1,340 mm and it gets a seat height of 835 mm, which is on the higher side. This could cause discomfort for short riders in handling the motorcycle. Also, the fuel tank capacity of the motorcycle is quite less when compared to its rivals. The bike only gets 9.5 Litres of tank capacity. The new KTM RC 200 BS6 is quite heavy too as the motorcycle weighs around 154 kilograms. Apart from these, the motorcycle does a decent job in terms of performance and glides over speed bumps without scraping the underbody thanks to the 178 mm of ground clearance it has on offer.
Summary
The new KTM RC 200 has a good ride height, however, the seat height is on the higher side. The fuel tank capacity seems to limit the motorcycle’s performance to go the distance without worrying about how much fuel is left in the tank.

Wheel Size | 17 inch inch |
Fuel Tank Capacity | 9.5 liters |
The KTM RC 200 is powered by a BS6-compliant 199.5cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine that is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The motor churns out 25 PS maximum power at 10000 RPM and 19.5 Nm of peak torque at 8000 RPM. The 199.5cc engine is quite responsive and provides great initial pick-up. It also offers decent performance for city commutes. The BS6 engine of the RC 200 is also smooth and refined. It gets a fuel-injection system that significantly makes the engine feel smoother and refined. Also, in the low and mid-range revs, the engine is quick to respond. The new KTM RC 200 BS6 is one of the most powerful 200cc motorcycles currently on sale in the Indian market.
The KTM RC 200 also offers good initial acceleration. The motorcycle feels peppy to ride inside the city limits and it offers good mid-range punch too. On highways, the motorcycle performs extremely well and helps attain speeds of up to 140kmph effortlessly. As for fuel efficiency, the bike manages to deliver around 32-37 kmpl in real-world conditions. The fuel injection technology plays an important role here as it not only improves fuel economy but also the power delivery.
The motorcycle also handles extremely well. It has a robust suspension setup that allows the rider to manoeuvre the bike easily. However, the suspension is set up on the stiffer side and could cause discomfort to the rider.
Summary
The KTM RC 200 is a ready-to-race machine that performs well in cities as well as on highways. The vehicle provides decent comfort on highways but not on bumpy sections of the road.
RC 200 2020 engine specifications:
Mileage | 38 kmpl |
Engine Displacement | 199.5 cc |
Top Speed | 142 kmph |
Power | 25 PS @ 10000 rpm |
Torque | 19.2 Nm @ 8000 rpm |
The KTM RC 200 is based on a steel trellis frame. The suspension duties are performed by 43 mm WP APEX upside-down (USD) forks at the front with 125 mm travel and a mono-shock absorber at the rear with 150 mm travel. The suspension is on the stiffer side as a result of which rides could become bumpy. The motorcycle is good for 40-80km rides but beyond that, the rider would feel discomfort due to the setup. For braking duties, it gets disc brakes at both ends. At the front, it gets a 300 mm disc while at the rear, it gets a 230 mm disc unit. The front brake is known for its impressive feedback and bite. The rear disc brake does not disappoint either, however, the RC 200 is only offered with a single-channel ABS.
As for the tyres, the RC 200 runs on 17-inch tubeless tyres. The front tyre measures 110/70-17 while the rear one is a 150/60 section 17-inch unit. These tyres provide good resistance against aquaplaning and should ensure a good amount of grip on bad sections of the road.
The RC 200 is also equipped with a decent amount of features like an all-digital instrument cluster loaded with details like real-time fuel efficiency, average speed, gear position indicator, shift light and the regular data. Apart from these, the motorcycle gets, twin projector headlights, with indicators, taillight and DRLs being LED units.
Summary
The new KTM RC 200 BS6 gets premium hardware components. It is based on a trellis frame, gets USD forks, a mono-shock absorber and large disc brakes at either end with a single-channel ABS. It is quite feature-loaded too and gets an all-digital instrument cluster.
