At the upcoming 2023 Auto Expo, BYD will showcase Seal electric sedan for the first time in the domestic market. Here are the top 5 things to know about the BYD Seal.
BYD Seal: Exterior Design
In terms of design, the BYD Seal takes inspiration from the Ocean X concept car which was unveiled in the year 2021. The electric sedan is a part of the BYD Ocean series and being a ground-up EV, its design direction is inspired by Ocean aesthetics and it looks quite futuristic, to say the least. Upfront a sharp pair of LED headlamps are seamlessly integrated into the hood of the sedan, resembling the eyes of an aquatic animal. The lower section sports distinctive air curtains along with a prominent front splitter.
Towards the sides, the electric sedan features a slightly sloping roofline, giving some hints of a couple-like styling along with dual creases running across the length and flush door handles are also a part of the package. The rear profile is characterized by prominent air curtains, a sporty rear diffuser and a sleek single-unit tail lamp.
BYD Seal: Dimensions
In terms of dimensions, the BYD Seal measures 4,800 mm in length, and 1,875 mm in width and sports a height of 1,460 mm. The wheelbase measures 2,920 mm. To give a brief idea about the vehicle's dimensions, the Toyota Camry measures 4,885 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,825 mm.
BYD Seal: Interiors and Features
The highlight of the electric sedan's interiors remains the 15.6-inch rotating infotainment display accompanied by an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster along with a heads-up display. Apart from this, the cabin layout of the Seal is brand new, making it a class apart from other models in the brand's line-up. Some of the stand-out elements of the electric sedan's interiors include a diamond-shaped gear selector level, interconnected air-con vents and blue-themed upholstery.
BYD Seal: Platform, Powertrain and Charging
The BYD Seal electric sedan sits on the brand's born EV e-Platform 3.0 architecture. The four-wheeler uses the brand's proven Blade Battery Technology and there are two battery pack options on offer, carrying a capacity of 61.4 kWh and 82.5 kWh. The smaller battery pack comes with a claimed range of 550 kilometres, as per CLTC (China Light Duty Vehicle Testing Cycle), while the larger one is capable of doing up to 700 kilometres. The smaller battery pack comes with a charging capacity of up to 110 kWh and the larger one can take up even more at 150 kWh.

Verdict: In international markets, BYD pitches the Seal eclectic sedan against the likes of the Tesla Model 3. Offered in a number of powertrain combinations, the EV can be a worthy launch for the Indian market. Although BYD's intention behind showcasing the Seal EV at the 2023 Auto Expo is unknown and it is too early to comment on its India debut until we hear something from the brand itself.
