Delhi Government Becomes First To Offer Subsidies worth Rs. 5,000 for e-cycle buyers

The Delhi Government will offer this subsidy to the first 10,000 buyers of the electric mode of transport.

Delhi becomes the first state in the country to provide subsidies worth Rs. 5,000 to the first 10,000 buyers of E-cycles. Along with Hon. Transport Minister of Delhi, Mr. Kailash Gahlot also announced that the first 1,000 buyers will also get additional subsidies worth Rs. 2,000. He further claimed how this move makes Delhi the first state in India to provide subsidies in the e-cycle segment.

Subsidies on cargo e-cycles and heavy-duty e-carts for commercial use will also be eligible for subsidies. Gahlot further added that the Delhi cabinet has okayed subsidies worth Rs. 15,000 for the first 5,000 e-cargo cycle buyers. Companies or corporate houses, that make bulk purchases can also avail of subsidies worth Rs. 30,000 in this segment.

All members of a family who have an Aadhar card will be eligible for the subsidy. The operational guidelines with regards to the company, and the models qualified for the scheme are yet to be fixated. The Delhi government will release them in the next two weeks, confirmed by Mr. Jasmine Shah, vice-chairman of the Delhi Dialogue and Development Commission.

Speaking on the occasion of this announcement was the chairman of Nexzu Mobility, Mr. Atulya Mittal. He said that "It is encouraging to see the seamless initiatives being pursued by the Delhi State Govt. to promote the agenda of sustainable mobility by easing the adoption of e-cycles and expanding the sphere of subsidies extended to corporates, apart from individuals."
He further added, "The initiative will go well towards reducing the carbon footprint and push the usage of e-cycles among businesses like e-commerce, delivery services, and aggregators, etc.."

The primary reason behind bringing electric cycles into the mainstream scene of mobility is mainly to help deliver services and last-mile connectivity. Prices for these modes of transport range from Rs. 25,000- Rs. 30,000. Whereas, the prices of commercial e-carts start from Rs. 90,000 and goes all the way up to Rs. 3.00 lakhs.

Gahlot further revealed that the Delhi Government has paid subsidies worth Rs. 59. 44 crores, since it launched its EV policy in August 2020. As per the government data, currently, there are 45,900 e-vehicles plying on the city roads, out of which EV 2-wheelers comprise 36%. The total number of registered e-vehicles has just crossed the 12%, Mr. Kailash Gahlot added.
