BSA Gold Star 650 - Worthy Rival To RE Interceptor?
The spied test mules look almost production ready. In the past, we've reported the multiple spotting of these test bikes. This means that BSA is rigorously testing it before the launch. BSA is known for quality & refinement; hence, such extensive testing. Meanwhile, the design of it is very retro and classic. It is clearly inspired by the 1960s roadster bikes from BSA. A lot of chrome has been used on its body parts. Even the large tear-shaped fuel tank is also draped in chrome plating. To give it a more retro touch, it uses spoked rims, which we think, will possibly get a tubeless feature.
While the design is neo-retro, it is nowhere old in terms of features. A semi-digital dual-pod instrument console is likely to get Bluetooth connectivity as well. Also, the bike will get safety features like dual-channel ABS, slipper-assist clutch, etc. Speaking of its engine, it is based on a 652cc single-cylinder engine. This long-stroke engine is supported via a liquid-cooling system. Hence, it generates a healthy power of 45 bhp & 55 Nm of peak torque. A 5-speed transmission is used on the global model, which we suspect, will also be used on the Indian spec. The front suspension unit used telescopic forks, while the rear end uses preload adjustable springs.
Verdict
The BSA Gold Star is a highly anticipated bike in India. Upon its launch, it'll rival the RE Interceptor 650 directly. However, online rumors say that it will get launched by late 2023 in India. As it will be a premium product, we suspect that BSA will price it a notch above Rs 3 lakhs in the market.
