Hi, I'm Tejen. I was born and brought up in a small town of Haryana. However, from the day of my birth and until now, I've always lived around cars and motorcycles. More than passion, the automotive world is my only lifestyle. It's the connection to the vehicle that delivers me peace. However, when it comes to a choice; my instinct leads me towards motorcycles.

Design & Features

The recently leaked photos of the bike revealed most of its design and features. If you remember the XR1200, the design will look familiar. The HD 400 is more of a neo-retro roadster rather than a cruiser. It looks like a bike that is going to be easy to ride inside the city as well as over the highways. The riding posture is relaxed but the rear set footpegs and the upright handlebar makes it a bit aggressive altogether. The rear end uses a fat tyre and a tail tidy that gives its design XR1200 vibes.

It'll be feature-rich as well. The use of LED lights is already visible in the leaked photos. Also, the round LED indicators give it a distinctive look. The instrument console of it is a digital unit that has a retro-inspired round tachometer. Also, we suspect that it'll get Bluetooth connectivity for phones as well as connected features like navigation as well. The 'ECO' light in the leaked photo of the console shows that it might get various riding modes too.

Engine & Specifications

Now, the main aspect that is largely known is its engine. Harley & Hero joined hands some time ago to make new models. These new-gen models are destined to lure the middle-segment market. Hence, the engine it uses is going to be a 400-450cc single-cylinder unit. There is no denial to the possibility that Hero might use the same engine on its upcoming bigger Xpulse 400 & Xtreme 400 bikes. We suspect that it'll be used on the HD 400 itself but in a different state of tune. The transmission is going to be a standard 6-speed unit for sure and we also expect that it'll get slipper-clutch and ride-by-wire features too. In terms of power, this engine might generate figures north of 35 bhp easily.

Now, the specifications on it are also interesting. The front suspension is a USD unit while the rear uses gas-charged dual-coilover springs. Hence, we can expect it to offer a sporty riding experience. Also, the 17-inch alloy wheels are draped in sticky rubber. The rear tyre, especially, looks fat and capable to deliver a rich experience. In terms of braking, the front unit is a single disc; possibly a 320mm. Similarly, the rear disc brake is also big and could be of 240mm in size. Some other notable features include the sculpted fuel tank and the single-piece rider seat.

Harley-Davidson HD 400 Price, Launch, & Rivals

The leaked online photos of the bike look like it is already production-ready. However, none of its test mules have been spied on in India till now. Not necessary that it'll happen, but, we think even if it is ready; it won't be anytime before late 2023 that it debuts globally. Additionally, Hero is also co-developing its 400 platforms, hence, some delays can also happen. As it will be locally produced, we suspect that its pricing will be competitive. The current segment of rivals includes the KTM Duke 390 & BMW G 310 R. Also, Bajaj-Triumph Scrambler is on its way which will be a direct rival to it. Hence, we suspect that its pricing will be in the range of Rs 2.5 - 3 lakh.
