Honda SP125 vs Shine 125 Comparison: Price, Specifications, Features and Verdict

In recent years, the 125cc segment has become one of the most popular spaces. Names like the Raider and Xtreme have gained significant prominence, however, this segment has some in-house rivalry as well, which brings us to the SP125 and the Shine 125. Both wear the Honda badge, both use the same 123.94cc engine, and both promise the fuel efficiency this segment is built around. Yet Honda has positioned these two on different shelves, one for the buyer who wants a bit of style and tech, the other for the buyer who just wants dependable transport without any fuss. So which one should actually get your money? Let's find out.

Design and Dimensions

Shine 125 Vs SP 125

The SP125 clearly borrows its face from Honda's larger Hornet-series bikes, with sharper LED lighting, aggressive tank extensions, and a sportier stance overall. The SP125 appears to be a more youthful and premium option out of two. The Shine 125, meanwhile, hasn't changed its core silhouette since it first launched back in 2006. It keeps things simple with a clean tank, simple headlamp cowl, and understated tail section overall a minimalist style. If you want a bike that has some modern styling and a sportier look, the SP125 wins easily.

Both bikes are built on similar footprints, but the SP125 is the slightly larger, heavier motorcycle at 116kg kerb weight against the Shine's 113kg. The SP125 also runs on 18-inch wheels which gives it a slightly more planted and stable feel at speed, and both bikes share an 11-litre fuel tank. Seat heights sit close together too, so neither should feel intimidating for shorter riders. In everyday use, this difference barely registers, both are light, easy to paddle at low speed, and simple to filter through traffic.

Engine and Performance

Shine 125 Vs SP 125

Under the tank is where things get genuinely interesting. Both motorcycles use the same 123.94cc, air-cooled, fuel-injected single, built around Honda's eSP technology and a silent ACG starter. The SP125 makes marginally more power, around 10.9PS against the Shine's 10.8PS, and both produce nearly identical torque figures in the 10.9-11Nm range via a 5-speed gearbox.

Though the difference is marginal, once you ride both the character difference will be obvious. The SP125's engine has a slightly punchier, more eager feel, especially through fourth and fifth gear. Whereas the Shine feels calmer and more relaxed by comparison, tuned purely for smooth ride which Honda’s engines are known for. All in all neither will excite a performance enthusiast, but the SP125 is the one that occasionally makes you want to hold a gear a little longer.

Now this is the space where the gap widens noticeably. The SP125 DLX gets a 4.2-inch TFT display running Honda RoadSync, with turn-by-turn navigation, call and message alerts, and a USB Type-C port, features you simply don't expect at this price. The Shine's top variant gets a similar TFT setup too, but its lower variants stick with a basic digital cluster. Both bikes get combined braking, an idling stop-start system, and the same reliable switchgear Honda is known for. If tech matters to you at all, the SP125 has a real edge, especially in its DLX trim.

Shine 125 Vs SP 125

The SP125 costs more, and that extra money buys you the sportier design, the TFT console, and a genuinely higher claimed mileage figure that regularly beats 60kmpl in real-world use. The Shine undercuts it by roughly Rs 7,000-8,000 depending on variant. If your budget allows the stretch, the SP125 pays some of that difference back at the pump over time.

Our Verdict

If style, tech, and slightly sharper performance matter to you, the SP125 is worth the extra spend, it genuinely feels like the more premium motorcycle to own and ride daily. But if your priority is the lowest possible running cost, proven reliability, and a motorcycle that simply disappears into the background of your life, the Shine 125 remains one of the smartest, most dependable commuters' money can buy in India today.
