Yahama is quite a versatile bike manufacturer and has been very proactive in introducing new models in the Indian market. The brand mainly targets the sports motorcycle segment in the country. However, Indian customers have been waiting for a neo-retro motorcycle from the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer for a long time. The Yamaha XSR155, the retro motorcycle is a highly anticipated model and the company could bring it to the Indian shores in the year 2023. Before that, we have brought a walkaround of the two-wheeler for you to have a look at it before Yahama launches it in the country. 2023 Yamaha XSR155: What It Looks Like?
By having a brief look at the design, it is quite clear that it unmistakably looks like a neo-retro motorcycle from all angles. The bike in this walkaround video is the 'World GP 60th Anniversary Edition' of the Yahama XSR155. This special edition features a new Sports Heritage livery with a Red-White colour combination coupled with a Golden shade for alloy wheels. Upfront, it gets a classic round headlamp with an LED light setup, flanked by halogen indicators on both ends, the same units we have seen on the Indian spec MT-15 2.0.
Moving towards the sides, the two-wheeler features minimalistic body panels with a 10.4-litre hefty-looking tank. The seat is almost flat, typical of a retro motorcycle and the instrument cluster is an all-digital unit At the rear, a round LED taillight with an uplifted tail are some of the prominent design elements and it misses out on a tyre hugger. The Golden USD forks at the front and a rear mono-shock handle the suspension department. The two-wheeler sports chunky-looking dual-purpose tyres and the braking set-up is a direct lift-off from the MT-15 2.0.
2023 Yamaha XSR155: Platform and Powertrain
While the Yamaha XSR155 follows the neo-retro design direction, underneath it is the replica of the brand's naked motorcycle, MT-15 2.0 as it sits on the same Deltabox Frame. It is powered by the familiar 155cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that is also used on the R15 V4 as well as the MT-15. The powerhouse uses VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) technology and the power output is rated at 18.4 bhp and 14.1 Nm of peak torque.

Verdict: The Yamaha XSR155 can become a great option for buyers considering a performance-oriented neo-retro motorcycle within the Rs. 2 lakh budget. The Yahama's brand value, good service quality and the proven Japanese reliability of the 155cc engine will work in the favour of the two-wheeler. The exact launch details are unknown, however, we expect Yahama to launch the XSR155 in India in the year 2023. Once launched, it will pitch against the likes of Royal Enfield Hunter 350 and TVS Ronin.
