Royal Enfield Scram 450: New Rival To KTM 390 Duke?
The latest spy shots that surfaced online show that this new roadster will be a radical design. Royal Enfield is likely to make it appear modern and compete with rivals like KTM 390 Duke. However, the round LED headlight and the sculpted fuel tank give it a retro touch.
As visible in the photos, it is based on the Sherpa 450 engine used on the new Himalayan. Moreover, the engine is used as a stress member for the chassis. This roadster model will be positioned below the Himalayan and hence it has less premium hardware like telescopic front suspension. The rear tyre with a block pattern design seems to be a 140-section unit. The alloy wheels indicate a 17-inch size for the rim, thus offering agility.
On the feature front, it will get an LED headlight, and turn indicators embedded taillights similar to the new Himalayan. A 4-inch TFT console with Bluetooth connectivity will be offered on it; making it modern in the true sense.
Royal Enfield Scram 450: Engine, Price, and Launch
The Sherpa 450 engine it'll use is the same that made its debut on the new Himalayan. It is a single-cylinder, DOHC, liquid-cooled unit that develops a peak power of 39.47 bhp and a peak torque of 40 Nm. This upcoming roadster will be tuned for a faster performance to support the commanding riding posture.
Royal Enfield has not disclosed any plans or details about this new model yet. But, we suspect that by the end of this year, it'll make its global debut. The company will aim to hit the rivals like Triumph Speed 400 and the BMW G 310 R with it. Hence, the introductory price can be somewhere near Rs 2.40 lakh.
Verdict
The upcoming roadster bike will expand the 450 platform of Royal Enfield globally. The new radical naked sports design and the powerful Sherpa engine will be something to look out for. With its debut, Royal Enfield also plans to change its image of being only a retro bike maker.
