MG Comet was first launched in 2023 as one of the most affordable and smallest EVs in the Indian market. The Comet has received several small updates over the years, and the brand has also introduced a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option for the vehicle. The MG Comet is still one of the smallest and most affordable EVs in the Indian market and is currently priced at Rs 7.79 lakh (ex-showroom). The Comet has seen decent demand in Tier-2 cities, owing to its compact dimensions and easy manoeuvrability. The Battery-as-a-Service option seems interesting, but it is important to understand all the aspects of this buying option. In this article, let's take a look at the variant-wise pricing of the MG Comet with the BaaS model.
MG Comet BaaS vs Complete Purchase Pricing

Customers can purchase the MG Comet EV through two buying options. The first is a full purchase of the vehicle, including the battery. At the same time, the second is a BaaS option, where the customer purchases the vehicle separately and pays for the battery based on their usage pattern. The variant-wise pricing of the MG Comet under both the complete purchase and BaaS options is given below.
Variant | Battery Capacity | Ex-Showroom Price with BaaS | Battery Rental Per Km | Ex-Showroom Price Complete |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Executive | 17.3 kWh | Rs 4.99 lakh | Rs 3.2 per km | Rs 7.79 lakh |
Excite | 17.3 kWh | Rs 6.09 lakh | Rs 3.2 per km | Rs 8.89 lakh |
Excite FC | 17.4 kWh | Rs 6.36 lakh | Rs 3.2 per km | Rs 9.16 lakh |
Exclusive | 17.3 kWh | Rs 7.09 lakh | Rs 3.2 per km | Rs 9.79 lakh |
Exclusive FC | 17.4 kWh | Rs 7.36 lakh | Rs 3.2 per km | Rs 10.06 lakh |
The BaaS option gives customers the flexibility to pay according to their usage. The vehicle cost is significantly lower; for example, the vehicle cost under BaaS is Rs 4.99 lakh, which is Rs 2.8 lakh lower than the complete cost of the vehicle with the battery. With the minimum battery rental starting at Rs 3.2 per km, this pay-per-use model offers a flexible payment option, allowing customers to split their monthly payments into two EMIs and reduce the burden of a single large EMI.
Another benefit of BaaS is that its pay-per-use model offers greater flexibility and makes EV ownership more affordable. The lower initial purchase price also makes EVs more accessible to customers who are new to electric mobility and are transitioning from an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle. It also allows customers to opt for higher variants without significantly increasing the upfront cost.
