Volkswagen Golf GTI

VW Golf GTI

This is the Volkswagen Golf GTI eigth generation, code name Mk8.5, built on the MQB platform, featuring a 2.0L TSI making 265 HP and 370 Nm of torque, sending all that to front wheels via 7-speed DSG gearbox. Result? 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, and it can do 260 plus km/h in its 5th gear only. Now, these are the basic details about it - here begins the first look review.

Front Profile

The face of Golf GTI speaks volumes about its rich history, performance DNA and purpose. The most visible part is its large hexagon-shaped Clubsport bumper, which allows airflow in the mid, and flanking each side are 5 LED fog lights arranged in an X, and why, because VW says, round ones are boring. Now, the second most visible feature here is the massive - Volkswagen logo - and not just a regular one, but illuminated, then there's a thin illuminated grille connecting to the very sleek but very sharp LED headlamps. Following the tradition, the iconic GTI badge sits just to the right of the logo, highlighted by red signature accents that proudly declare: this is no ordinary hatchback.

Side Profile

VW Golf GTI

As soon as you glance at it from the side, one thing that hits your conscious is this is a long car. Yes, the dimensions say that the length of the Golf GTI is 4289 mm. The star of the moment is these 5-spoke 18-inch diamond cut wheels, paired with red brake calipers. Also, the tyre section is 225/40/R18. Just below the ORVMs, you'll spot the "GTI" badge with red accents, adding a special touch. The doors are large and feel solid, and since this is a CBU unit, its build quality is far superior to most cars manufactured locally. Also, this car sits very low to the ground, offering just 136 mm of ground clearance.

Rear Profile

The rear section is delightful and sporty - with very strong aesthetics reminiscent of a sports car. From this angle, you'll see its wide body that sits low and has a very Volkswagen-ness to shape to it. The twin chrome exhaust, a big VW logo and GTI badging are some of its feature highlights - while the LED tail-lights appears perfectly placed here. Overall, this is seriously an alluring side of Golf GTI.
