Volkswagen Golf GTI
The Volkswagen Golf GTI is a performance-oriented premium hatchback, brought to India via the CBU route. One of the most legendary nameplates with a rich history has finally been launched in India. However, it’s very hard to get one, as only a few units have been brought in the first batch. The closest and only rival of Golf GTI is Mini Cooper S.

Volkswagen Golf GTI Detailed Review
- Volkswagen Golf GTI is a big premium hatchback with a low-slug wide body that even from a distance reminds you of its performance DNA. Be it front, side or rear profile, it appears massive and very low to ground. Plus, GTI badging with red inserts speaks of its racing DNA.
- The front profile is lit up with sleek and sharp LED headlights, an illuminated VW logo, LED DRLs and X-shaped fog lights. Also, the grille features GTI badging with thin red stripe, sending a clear message that this is not a regular Golf variant.
- It features 5-spoke 18-inch diamond-cut wheels, paired with red brake calipers. Also, the tyre section is 225/40/R18. Plus, below the ORVMs, the “GTI" badge with red accents looks ecstatic.
- At the rear, the tail-lights get a smoked-out treatment, giving them a sporty yet premium appearance. From this angle, you also get a clear sense of the car's impressive width. Adding to the visual appeal are the twin chrome exhausts, a bold VW logo, and the GTI badging - some of the key highlights of this profile.
- One major drawback of this vehicle is its 136 mm ground clearance, which is not ideal for Indian roads, as our roads are often unpredictable and there's a high chance of the underbody getting damaged easily.
- Lastly, Golf GTI is available in four colour options - Red, White, Grey, and Black.
Golf GTI body specifications:
| Wheel Size | R18 |
| Seating Capacity | 5 seaters |
| Ground Clearance | 136 mm |
| Boot Space | 380 liters |

- 2.0L TSI producing 265 hp and 370 Nm of torque is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG, and it shoots off the line like a bullet out of a sniper. 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in just 5.9 seconds, and while the top speed is not officially disclosed, it can easily reach up to 270 km/h.
- The weight of this car is 1,454 kg and the power to weight ratio is approximately 182.26 hp per ton. So, just imagine how quick this car really is.
- Talking about suspension - both front and rear ones are independent but the front ones are McPherson Struct, while the rear ones are four-link axle. Lastly, the turning radius is 5.45 meters.
Golf GTI engine specifications:
| Transmission | Automatic (DSG) |
| Engine | 1984 cc |

-
The dashboard is similar to what we saw in the Tiguan R-Line, but focused towards the driver. Center of attention is a 12.9 inch infotainment display with wireless connectivity and host of other features. Plus, there is 10.25 Inch fully customizable MID that appears striking and is fully HD.
-
The steering wheel is fully leather wrapped and also features GTI clasp.
-
Dashboard is finished in gloss black trims that look scintillating but the finger touch marks leaves on them, which looks odd.
-
Panoramic sunroof is there - Indian’s favourite feature and it open ups the interior with natural light. Other features include three-zone automatic climate control, wireless charger, seven speakers sound system, 4 USB ports, IDA voice control and voice enhancer.
-
The 7-speed gear selector is finished in aluminum, and pedals are in stainless steel,
-
Seats used here are different, a single bucket seat, and VW is calling them - Scalepaper Plaid seats with red accents: Old-school cool. So, they aren’t ventilated or electrically adjustable, but they’re perfect and align with the character of this car.

| Wireless Charger | Yes - Front |
| Ventilated Seats | No |
- Golf GTI features 7 airbags, which is quite rare in the Indian ocean of cars.
