Skoda Octavia RS Vs VW Golf GTI - Sibling Battles!

The Skoda Octavia RS is returning after a long gap, albeit in very limited numbers. The fact that Skoda does not offer the regular Octavia in India anymore further makes this a big deal for fans of the Czech car maker. With prices set to be announced in November, we couldn't help but draw parallels to its cousin, the Volkswagen Golf GTI, given that both of them come from the same family, share the same powertrain, and are based on the same platform.

Skoda Octavia RS Vs Volkswagen Golf GTI Design

Obviously, both these cars differ in terms of the way they look; one's a hatchback and the other a sedan, and both categories under pressure from the horde of SUVs dominating markets nearly everywhere. The Octavia is also obviously bigger than the Golf GTI in terms of dimensions. What both cars do have in common visually, is that they both make use of sharper elements, thus adding to what are typically understated designs for the most part. In its current guise, the Octavia RS comes with sharper DRLs and a standout Mamba Green paint scheme, while the Golf GTI makes use of red inserts and aggressive elements on the bumpers.

The Golf GTI makes do with 18-inch alloy rims, while the Octavia RS sits on 19-inch rims. That said, this is a purely subjective round, and even though I usually lean towards hatchbacks, there's always something about an Octavia.

Both cars share the same powertrain; the famous 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol unit with 265bhp and 370Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed DSG transmission. These figures are identical down to the rpm figures as well. However, while the Golf GTI covers a 0-100kmph run in 5.9 seconds, the Octavia RS is marginally slower to the landmark, doing it in 6.4 seconds.

The Golf GTI weighs lesser than the Octavia RS, which should probably affect the overall character of the car, but not by a big margin. Both cars also reach claimed top speed figures of 241kmph and 250kmph respectively. The Octavia RS will come with a 13-inch infotainment system, and the cabin will feature a sportier black and red treatment. The dashboard will also feature decorative carbon strips and suede upholstery with red stitching. Some other features include a 10-inch instrument cluster, a powered tailgate, keyless entry/exit, 10 airbags, three-zone climate control, welcome/goodbye signatures, partial ADAS tech. chassis mode settings among other things.The car will also come with power-adjustable sport seats with memory function, and the massage function will be offered as well.

Meanwhile, the Golf GTI also gets a 13-inch infotainment screen, and similar to the Octavia RS, it also gets an all-black cabin with red inserts to lay emphasis on the sporty nature of the hot hatchback. A 12.9-inch touch screen infotainment system takes centre-stage, and it also gets a 10.25-inch digital cockpit with a customizable display, voice commands, an electronic front differential, adaptive cruise control, and a 7-speaker sound system, Level 2 ADAS, 7 airbags, rear view camera, a wireless charger and a conventional sunroof among other things.
