Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric Latest Update
Last Updated On 24th Feb'26: The Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric is an upcoming electric sedan set to launch in April, with bookings commencing from March 10, 2026. This luxury sedan returns after six years, following its discontinuation in 2020. Earlier, it was available with petrol and diesel engine options, but now the German carmaker has reintroduced it as a fully electric vehicle.
Talking about the specifications, it will be equipped with an 85 kWh battery pack, offering a claimed range of 792 km. These figures are achieved due to its highly efficient battery, motor, and aerodynamic design, meaning very little energy is wasted and most of it is used to keep the car moving. Additionally, it now has higher ground clearance, allowing it to handle bumps and uneven roads more comfortably.

CLA Electric Highlights
What We Like
The Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric marks a new era of electric luxury cars in India by introducing new-age technology and offering a claimed range of 792 km at a price of under Rs 1 crore. It is a step forward towards the future.
What We Don't Like
There is just too much reliance on screens, which can be distracting at high speeds. The rear seats are not very supportive, and rivals offer a better rear-seat experience.

Pros & Cons of CLA Electric
What we admire in this car
792 km of claimed range at Rs 59 lakh, makes it unmistakably good deal.
Does 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, with long-range variant.
Tech-loaded, equipped with latest and the best technology on offer.
The front profile is tastefully executed, balancing modern elements and brand identity.
High on comfort - typical Mercedes-Benz behaviour.
What could have been better
Rear seat space isn’t the best, and the seats lack adequate under-thigh support.
The dashboard is dominated by three screens, which can feel overwhelming.
There’s also a heavy reliance on screens, even for simple tasks.
Ground clearance is low, so it may scrape on undulated roads.
Should I buy the CLA Electric?
If you want a top-notch electric car experience under Rs 1 crore, then the Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric is one of the best options out there. It is highly efficient - to the extent that most other EVs feel underwhelming in comparison. However, being sporty isn’t its core nature, so don’t expect it to match an enthusiast’s expectations. That said, it is very quick in a straight line, but not tuned for an engaging or thrill-focused driving experience.
- Adopts Mercedes-Benz’s latest “Sensual Purity” design language with a sleek fastback silhouette and strong aerodynamic focus, with a drag-coefficient of 0.21 - that translates to CLA EV being highly-fuel efficient. So, its going to save you a lot of money.
- The front fascia stands out with an illuminated panel grille featuring 140+ star elements, giving it a distinct EV identity. This star-pattern illumination not only strengthens visual recognition, especially at night, but also gives the car a more premium and tech-forward presence. The sharp LED headlamps, connected by a light bar, further emphasise width and lend the CLA a distinctive signature on the road.
- Short overhangs combined with a long wheelbase help achieve a well-balanced, cab-rearward stance that looks both sporty and elegant. The fastback roofline flows seamlessly into the rear, giving it a coupe-like silhouette, while the GT-style rear design - with sleek LED tail lamps and a wide-set appearance - adds to the sense of planted stability.
- Customers can choose from four colour options - Polar white, cosmic black, Aqua mint, and the signature - MANUFAKTUR patagonia red.

- Offered with a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive layout, the Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric prioritises efficiency and driving smoothness over outright performance figures. This configuration not only helps optimize energy consumption but also delivers a more balanced weight distribution, contributing to stable handling characteristics and a refined driving experience suited for both city and highway use.
- The CLA 250+ is powered by a motor producing 200 kW, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.7 seconds, which is brisk without being overly aggressive. Power delivery is tuned to feel progressive rather than sudden, aligning with the car’s luxury positioning. Meanwhile, the CLA 200 features a lower output setup, making it more efficiency-focused and accessible, while still offering adequate performance for everyday driving conditions.
- Torque output remains consistent at 335 Nm across variants, which plays a key role in delivering instant yet controlled acceleration - one of the inherent advantages of electric drivetrains. The linear torque curve ensures that the car feels responsive without being jerky, especially in stop-go traffic or during quick overtakes.
- Top speed is electronically limited to 210 km/h, a figure that is more than sufficient for Indian road conditions. This limiter also helps maintain efficiency and protect the battery system over prolonged high-speed usage, reinforcing the CLA’s positioning as a well-rounded electric luxury sedan rather than a performance-oriented EV.
- Built on an 800V electrical architecture, enabling faster charging and improved efficiency.
- The Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric 250+ uses an 85.5 kWh battery, delivering a claimed WLTP range of up to 792 km. It produces 271.92 PS and 335 Nm of torque.
- Supports DC fast charging up to 320 kW, with a 400 km top-up achievable in 20 minutes (240 kW charger).
- The CLA 200 offers a smaller pack with 542 km range and 320 km recharge in 20 minutes, making it the more accessible option. Power is 224.34 PS and 335 Nm.
- All battery packs have claimed top-speed of 210 km/h and same torque, 335 Nm.
- Debuts the MB.OS platform with 4th-gen MBUX, making the Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric far more software-driven with support for OTA updates and continuous feature enhancements. This new architecture allows faster processing and a more responsive interface, while also enabling the car to evolve over time with new features. It essentially shifts the CLA towards a more connected, future-ready ecosystem.
- The integrated AI ecosystem (ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing, Google Gemini) enhances voice interactions and navigation intelligence, making commands more natural and conversational. It can understand context better, assist with route planning, and even suggest charging stops proactively. This creates a more personalised and intuitive in-car experience.
- It comes with a Superscreen interface, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof with heat protection coating, giving the cabin a distinctly modern and premium feel. The Superscreen integrates multiple displays into one seamless layout, while the ambient lighting adds a sense of theatre inside the cabin. The heat-protective glass also helps reduce cabin temperature, improving comfort in hot conditions.
- It is equipped with Level 2 ADAS (upgradeable to L2+), supported by NVIDIA-powered computing hardware for enhanced processing capability. This setup enables features like adaptive cruise control and lane assist to function more smoothly and accurately. With OTA upgrades, the system can further improve over time, adding more advanced driver assistance functions.
