Made in India and primarily developed for Indian buyers, the BMW X1 LWB ticks almost every box that a luxury car buyer in India could ask for. It offers a premium cabin, plenty of features, acres of space, a panoramic sunroof and a petrol engine, all at a surprisingly competitive price for a BMW. For someone entering the luxury car segment, it makes a strong case for itself. That said, the X1 LWB isn’t the BMW an enthusiast might expect. It is front-wheel drive and is tuned more towards comfort and convenience than outright driving pleasure. Its 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine has enough power to ensure it never feels strained, but it lacks the character and involvement enthusiasts typically associate with BMW. And that’s okay, because the X1 LWB isn’t really made for them.

Widescreen curved display: The dashboard gets BMW’s Widescreen Curved Display running BMW OS 9, giving the cabin a clean, modern look with most functions accessible through the touchscreen and controls.
Adaptive LED headlights: The X1 LWB gets Adaptive LED headlights, which also feature a cornering function. BMW’s High Beam Assistant automatically manages the high beam to avoid dazzling oncoming traffic.
Large panoramic sunroof: The 9 sq ft panoramic sunroof is one of the biggest highlights of the X1 LWB and is claimed to be the largest in its segment. It also makes the already spacious cabin feel more airy.
Harman Kardon sound system: Music duties are handled by a 12-speaker Harman Kardon system with 205W output, which is a nice touch for a luxury SUV at this price point.
Digital Key Plus: You can use a compatible smartphone or smartwatch as the car’s key to lock, unlock and start the SUV. BMW also allows the digital key to be shared with up to 18 users.
Comfort Access 2.0: This takes keyless entry a step further. The X1 LWB can unlock without requiring you to tap your phone or smartwatch on the door handle, making the feature genuinely useful when your hands are full.
360-degree camera: The Parking Assistant Plus with a 360-degree surround-view camera should come in handy, especially considering the X1 LWB’s increased length.
