Variant Recommendation

author

For buyers who are on tight budget and open to aftermarket upgrades, the Pure variant serves as a recommended starting point. However, the Adventure variant falls short on features, making it a less favorable choice in our recommendation. Opting for the Accomplished variant might be suitable if you seek an AMT or a sunroof on a budget, though it doesn't provide an extensive array of features. Among the Punch lineup, the Creative variant emerges as one of the most recommended choices. It not only encompasses all the essential features but also allows customers to choose from various packages to enhance its feature richness, making it a highly recommended option

Pros & Cons of Tata Punch

  • Features we admire in this car

    • The Punch offers a distinct appearance with its SUV-inspired styling
    • Its interior provides good practical and utility space, ensuring functionality
    • Equipped with a multitude of features including a 7-inch Harman touchscreen, rain sensing wipers, automatic climate control, and an electric sunroof
    • The availability of dual-cylinder CNG technology gives usable boot space
    • Convenient 90-degree door opening allows easy ingress and egres
    • Enhanced safety is highlighted by its impressive 5-Star GNCAP rating
    • The Punch demonstrates refined road manners and commendable on-road stability
    • Customization packages are offered to enhance the car with additional features
  • Features that could have been better

    • The 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine lacks the refinement found in competitors' 4-cylinder engines
    • The cabin's width restricts accommodation to four adults, making it strictly a 4-seater
    • There's no provision for a turbo-petrol or diesel engine
    • The AMT transmission exhibits occasional jerkiness and feels sluggish
    • The NVH level leaves room for improvement; the engine lacks the desired refinement
    • The top-spec AMT variants surpass the Rs 10 lakh price bracket
    • Some features, including auto-dimming IRVM, 60:40 folding rear seats, rear armrest, and rear AC vents, are not available

Should I buy the Punch?

The Tata Punch is a good choice for families looking for a safe family vehicle because of its 5-star GNCAP rating, variety of features, and excellent driving dynamics. It is lacking in finesse, fit, and finish, though. As an alternative, the Hyundai Exter makes a strong case because it has a well-tuned engine, amazing features, and first-rate after-sale assistance.

SUV Like Profile Gives It A Good Look 9
  • Tata introduced the Punch into the micro-SUV segment, offering robust SUV styling at a price similar to a hatchback. Its styling has become a unique selling proposition, presenting a compact yet stylish car with significant road presence.
  • Sporting a high-set bonnet, upright pillars, accentuated arches, and distinctive cladding characteristic of SUVs, the Punch is the smallest member of Tata's SUV lineup, drawing design cues from the larger Safari, particularly evident in the split headlamp setup.
  • The exterior attributes, including LED DRLs, chrome underlining, and a tri-arrow grille, contribute to the Punch's purposeful appearance. The cladding on the doors, large wheels, and contrasting roof and mirrors enhance its overall visual appeal. With 90° door openings, easy cabin access is facilitated. The rear styling is equally compelling, with a tailgate boasting prominent cuts and tri-arrow LED tail lights, accompanied by cladding on the rear bumper.

The Hyundai Exter is the Punch's other competitor. Although the Exter is more focused on its feature-rich offerings, the Punch stands out due to its strong build quality and remarkable safety rating. In contrast to the Punch, which uses a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine that is good, but not as refined as the Exter's 1.2-liter 4-cylinder engine, which ensures an excellent level of refinement. Both SUVs have distinctive feature sets, but the Exter has an advantage thanks to extras like the dual-camera dashcam. Both of them have competitive pricing, which makes them standout options in their market.

The Tata Punch has a unique look because to its SUV-inspired bodywork. Along with features like an electric sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, and a 7-inch Harman touchscreen, the inside is filled with useful room and functionality. Dual-cylinder CNG technology increases adaptability but comes at the expense of boot capacity. The Punch has a 5-Star GNCAP certification for safety, and it drives with excellent road manners. The Citroen C3, however, has a certain allure of its own. It highlights comfort and style with a touch of European design. The car has several cutting-edge technology and the cabin offers a cozy retreat. Although the C3 lacks the Punch's tough SUV stance, it makes up for it with an emphasis on urban refinement. The Citroen C3 also offers the option of a turbo petrol engine but it boasts a premium price tag.

The Tata Punch impresses with its rugged styling, spacious cabin, and practical features. It delivers adequate performance for its class but could improve handling dynamics and interior material quality.

"After driving my car for a year, I've found its overall performance to be satisfactory, though not exceptional. While it reliably gets me from point A to point B, I've noticed some areas where it could be better. The engine provides adequate power, but lacks the punch I was hoping for, especially during acceleration. The handling is decent, but it could be more responsive and agile, particularly around corners. one area of concern is the fuel mileage, which is not great, leading to more frequent visits to the pump than I would prefer. In conclusion, while my car has served me well overall, there's definitely room for improvement in various aspects of its performance and build quality."
