BMW X1 Long Wheelbase Launched At Rs 49.90 Lakh! Price, Features and More
The BMW X1 LWB has been launched in India at Rs 49.90 lakh (ex-showroom), with bookings having opened last week. Interestingly, the long-wheelbase version is Rs 1 lakh cheaper than the standard X1, which is priced between Rs 50.9 lakh and Rs 52.9 lakh (ex-showroom). Despite the lower price, it gets a longer body, a more powerful petrol engine and additional equipment.
The SUV is 116mm longer overall, with 110mm of the added length going into the wheelbase, while its height has increased by 11mm. The petrol engine also produces 22 PS more than the standard model. However, BMW is not offering the long-wheelbase version with a diesel engine.
BMW X1 LWB Wheelbase: Standard vs LWB
The regular BMW X1 sold in India runs a 2,692mm wheelbase, with an overall length of 4,500mm. The X1 LWB stretches that wheelbase by 110mm to 2,802mm, and overall length grows by 116mm to 4,616mm. Height increases by roughly 11mm, while width stays unchanged at 1,845mm. Nearly all of that extra length goes into rear legroom, which is the entire point of the LWB version.
This is not a new idea for BMW in India. The electric iX1 LWB already uses a similarly stretched wheelbase of 2,800mm, and its strong sales are the reason BMW has now brought a combustion version alongside it. With this launch, no other brand in the segment, including the Audi Q3 or Mercedes-Benz GLA, offers a long-wheelbase entry-luxury SUV in India.

Engine and Transmission
The X1 LWB comes with a single 1.5-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine tuned to produce 156 PS and 230Nm, an increase of roughly 22 PS over the standard petrol X1. Power goes through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox to the front wheels. The standard-wheelbase X1 in India continues with diesel power only, which makes the LWB the sole petrol option in the X1 line-up.

Features on the X1 LWB
The X1 LWB comes equipped with a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, 8 airbags, a powered tailgate, dual-zone climate control, a large curved dashboard display, a wireless smartphone charger, digital key support, 12 Harman Kardon speakers, 360-surround view camera, and electrically adjustable front seats with memory function. It also gets a segment-unique Reversing Assistant, which remembers the last 50 metres covered and automatically reverses the car along exactly the same route.
Why the Wheelbase Matters
A longer wheelbase generally translates into more stable high-speed handling and better rear legroom, since the extra length sits between the axles rather than overhanging them. BMW has aimed that extra 110mm squarely at rear passengers, making the LWB the more sensible pick for buyers who spend more time being driven than driving.
