BMW M5

The new M5 is based on the regular 5 Series. However, at 5096mm, it is marginally shorter in terms of length, and it also measures 1970mm in terms of width, which is 70mm wider than the standard 5 Series. 

The kidney grille is still there, but it is a closed-off unit with illuminated borders, signifying the fact that this is a hybrid performance sedan. 

The bumpers at both ends have been redesigned more aggressively, and it also gets flared, swollen arches for a more imposing stance. 

The M Carbon roof comes as standard and it helps lowering the car’s centre of gravity. Since there is no panoramic sunroof, the M Carbon roof also reduces the overall weight of the car by 30kg. 

The new M5 comes with a 20-inch front and a 21-inch rear wheel setup, and it also gets a two-section diffuser with twin exhaust tailpipes finished in black chrome.

The 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine has been retained, and an electric motor is integrated into the 8-speed automatic transmission. Together, this system produces 717bhp and 1000Nm of torque. 

The new M5 completes a 0-100kmph run in 3.5 seconds, and it reaches a top speed of 250kmph. However, choosing the optional M Driver’s package will help you breach that figure and reach a top speed of 305kmph. 

The new M5 also gets an 18.6kWh li-ion battery pack, which supports 7.4kW charging, and it gives the car a claimed EV-only range of 69km on a single charge. 

Some more interesting hardware includes an adaptive suspension with electronically-controlled dampers, rear-axle steering, and the M xDrive all-wheel drive system.

The new M5’s interiors are also based on the regular 5 Series, featuring the similar 14.9-inch Curved Display and the 12.3-inch instrument cluster, and the same ambient lighting panels as well. 

The M leather steering wheel is a flat-bottomed unit, with red M1 and M2 buttons for custom setting functions. 

The interiors are swathed in Merino Leather upholstery  in shades of Red/Black, Kyalami Orange, Silverstone/Black and Black. It also gets M Multi-function seats, which look and feel better suited to the sporty nature of this car.

The new M5 gets an M Drive Professional Suite, which comes with a lap timer and boost control. 

Some other features include three driving modes, four-zone climate control, a Bowers & Wilkins sound system, dynamic mode, cornering brake control, dynamic stability control, and active roll stabilization.

It also comes with an ADAS suite with things such as rear collision warning, lane departure warning, active cruise control, lane change assistant, cross traffic warning, and emergency stop assistant.
