Lexus LX
This is Lexus’ flagship model for the Indian market. The LX500d is offered with a diesel engine only, comes in a 5-seater configuration and is imported into India as an entirely built unit. Given the premium price tag, there is no direct rival in India. The Lexus LX500d remains in extremely high demand and is the last word in XXXL size super luxury SUV space. This SUV is what the cream layer of car buyers want in the country.

Pros & Cons of LX
What we admire in this car
What we admire in this car
Road presence : the LX is XXXL sized and looks enormous
Bullet proof reliability and indestructible : unbeatable peace of mind
Creamy smooth V6 diesel that sounds great and is efficient for a beast SUV
Overall comfort levels - huge seats, good ride quality
Brand recall - the Lexus brand feels at home in the Rs 2 crore + segment
Kit on offer : multiple screens, ventilated rear seats, soft close doors (powered), air suspension etc
What could have been better
What could have been better
Way too expensive : you can purchase two Mercedes GLS for the price
No third row of seats : most rivals offer this at half the price
Limited 2nd row space : given this is a 2 row SUV, we expected more space in the 2nd row
Surprise omission of features - example, no powered rear window curtain, no panoramic sunroof etc
Limited network as compared to German rivals
Lexus LX Detailed Review
-
Although this is a new-generation model, it still carries many old-school design cues. Given its enormous size and dimensions, the LX500d has a lot of street cred
-
The LX500d has the biggest wheels ever since on a Lexus product. At 22-inch, these are massive and fill the wheel arches very well. Tyre size stands at 265/50 R22.
-
An XXL-sized grille dominates the front end - it's so huge that it can put to shame modern-day BMW grilles, too.
-
The long and high bonnet adds muscle to the stance of the LX. This part of the SUV looks nice and very American-ish.
-
All four doors have in-built sensors for the key fob - you can unlock / lock the car via any of the doors. These also have the soft close function
-
Rear of the Lexus is modern looking with large tail lamps and a connect glass theme.
-
Unfortunately, this is a 2-row vehicle with 5 seat configuration. This however liberates acres of boot space for your luggage needs
-
Getting into the LX is tough, though you can lower the air suspension by a few centimeters
-
Thanks to the generous width, the cabin feels very airy. Even the seats are huge, thereby being comfortable for larger adults as well
-
All the seats are ventilated - including rear. Further, rear passengers get dedicated screens for infotainment.
-
The LX offers a four zone climate control. Rear two passengers can control the air-con independently from the small screen located behind the front arm-rest
-
The 2nd row seats aren’t too good on leg space and knee room. This is one shortcoming here. However, width is generous
-
The LX is feature loaded - but still misses out on a panoramic sunroof and powered rear window sun blinds.
-
This is a rare engine in India : a creamy V6 turbo diesel unit on offer, paired to a 10 speed automatic gearbox. Max power is 409 PS and peak torque is 700 Nm.
-
Although smaller in engine capacity than the previous V8 motor, the 3300cc unit offers more power and higher torque. These are delivered across a wider range of engine speeds for powerful, linear acceleration.
-
Power can go to all the four wheels and there is proper, hard-core 4x4 hardware on offer. You can raise the suspension and hit the toughest of 4x4 trails around
-
The engine is extremely refined and NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) levels excellent. The diesel engine is barely audible for rear seat passengers.
-
In daily driving in flowing traffic, the Lexus LX500d will offer fuel economy of 7-9 kmpl. Out on open roads, mileage increases to 10kmpl between 90-100 km/h.
LX engine specifications:
| Transmission | Automatic |
| Mileage | 7 |
| Engine | 3346 cc |
| Power | 304.41 bhp @ 4000 rpm |
| Torque | 700 Nm @ 1600-2600 rpm |
| Drive Train | AWD |
-
The LX 500d Overtrail Edition specifically receives a new ‘Moon Desert’ paint scheme, along with blacked-out treatment on areas like the grille, air vents on the front bumper, window surrounds, roof rails, and wheel arches. Additionally, it also gets matte grey metallic alloy rims with 3D spokes.
-
On the inside, it receives a unique Overtrail Monolith paint scheme, which is complemented by Ash Open Pore Sumi Black treatment, which reflects the more off-road friendly nature of this particular car.
LX body specifications:
| Wheel Size | R22 & R18 |
| Seating Capacity | 5 seaters |
| Ground Clearance | 205 mm |
| Boot Space | 174 liters |

-
The 2025 LX 500d now comes with a unique seat massage function which works via a bladder-based refresh system. The connected tech suite has also been updated with an India-specific Data Communication Module (DCM), which ensures that your car stays connected to the internet.
-
The set of connected features include an SOS call function, collision alerts, vehicle tow alerts, remote start/stop, remote power window function, vehicle finder, stolen vehicle tracking, and vehicle health among other things.
-
The ADAS suite adds on a safety layer, and it consists of features such as a pre-collision system, a radar-based cruise control system, lane trace assist, blind spot monitoring, safe exit assist, lane departure assist, and adaptive high beam.
-
The Overtrail Edition is more capable, with the addition of front and rear differential locks, which further aid the central locking differential already available on the standard LX 500d.
