Should I buy the MT 15 V2?
The Yamaha MT 15 V2 is designed for the young buyers looking for a punch-packed bike with loaded features. Its aggressive design might not appeal to everyone’s taste but it surely is a head-turner bike. Meanwhile, the fit & finish & the build quality on it is also top-notch. The sweetest part is the 155cc R15-sourced engine which is a high-revving unit. It is a fast bike which is also very refined. We recommend it to the buyers looking to buy a reliable streetfighter bike. But, if you want more punch, the KTM 200 Duke is faster but costs more. Or, try the Pulsar NS200 if you’re on a budget.
- The strength of the Yamaha MT 15 V2 is its 155cc liquid-cooled engine. It has been sourced from the R15 sports bike. It’s a high-revving engine which can easily hit 10,000 rpm. The mid-range of this engine is its strongest point i.e. between 4,000 rpm to 7,000 rpm. Below this mark, it does feel a bit hesitant at times but the ease to ride remains consistent. Also, it is very fuel economical as it can deliver easily upwards of 53 kmpl. If you love top speed, it can touch 130 kmph or maybe even more. But, post 120 kmph the engine feels strained on it. Also, there are a few vibrations which can be felt on the footpegs around 100 kmph.
- The riding position is lovely on this bike. Rider height is not a concern on it as anyone can easily ride it inside the city. The ergonomics are good. The short turning radius and lightness make handling in traffic easy. However, on the highway, the bike feels light in crosswinds. This causes it to struggle to stay straight.. Apart from this, it can also be used a good touring machine.
- The Yamaha MT 15 V2 is loaded with latest safety features. It gets a dual-channel ABS on the top variants. Also, the slipper-assist clutch is standard on it. These combined with the traction control system (TCS) help in a safe ride for the riders. The front 282mm disc brake combined with 220mm rear disc brake offer sharp braking power. It is very easy to control the MT 15 V2 at higher speeds due to strong brakes.
- Yamaha has fitted loads of features on the MT 15 V2 like the LED lights, Bluetooth phone connectivity, etc. The LED projector headlight with DRLs works brilliant at night time. It also gets a TFT digital display which has every necessary info like fuel economy, gear position indicator, rev limiter, etc. You can also connect your smartphone to it for SMS/call alerts on the go.
- The design of the MT 15 V2 is very sharp. It justifies the streetfighter design of the segment in every true sense. However, we think that this radical outlook might not appeal to every buyer.
- The build quality, fit & finish of the MT 15 V2 is very good. In a typical Japanese manner, the MT has no panel gaps, no inconsistent quality throughout the bike.
