2020 Ford Freestyle Petrol BS6 Mileage Test - Fun To Drive Yet Frugal?

Ford India first launched the Freestyle Cross-Hatch in our country in April 2018. Though the Freestyle was a crossover version of the Figo hatchback, it became immensely popular, thanks to its rugged looks. Now, it's 2020 and so Ford has updated the Freestyle to meet the new stringent BS6 emission norms. Also, the carmaker has launched a new top of the line variant of the Freestyle called the Flair Edition. We took this car for a spin on the Delhi Roads to test its fuel-efficiency. So, here we have for you the results of the Mileage Test of the new 2020 Ford Freestyle Petrol BS6.
The Ford Freestyle is available with both petrol as well as diesel engine options. Both the engines deliver segment-best performance figures and offer a great driving experience. It gets a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine. This oil-burner churns out 100 PS of power and a whopping 215 Nm of torque. The gasoline unit is a BS6-compliant 1.2-litre, three-cylinder mill. This petrol motor churns out 96 PS of power and 119 Nm of torque. Both the engines come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and there is no automatic transmission on offer.

Our companion in this fuel-efficiency test was the Petrol model of the Ford Freestyle Flair Edition. We drove this car inside Delhi, i.e. on the city roads and not on the highways. We encountered constant stop and go traffic jams and so we couldn't maintain a good average speed. But, that was okay and done intentionally as we wanted to tell our viewers/readers how much does the BS6 Freestyle Petrol actually delivers in real-world driving conditions. It is worth mentioning that to know the exact error-free city mileage of the car, we used the tankful to tankful method. We drove the Freestyle Petrol for a good 121.40 kilometres on the city roads of the National Capital.

The average fuel-economy shown by the car on the driver's display was exactly 15.0 kmpl. However, when we calculated by tankful to tankful method, the fuel-economy came out to be 13.67 kmpl [total distance 121.4 kms/8.8-litres of petrol]. This fuel-efficiency figure is pretty impressive, considering we encountered stop-go traffic on the city roads. The average speed that we could maintain during our test was 29 kmph. On empty roads and on the national highways, it will deliver even better. Talking about the ARAI-claimed fuel-efficiency figures, so the new Freestyle Petrol BS6 is rated at 18.5 kmpl while the Freestyle Diesel BS6 is rated at 23.4 kmpl.

The new 2020 Ford Freestyle BS6 is available in five variants - Ambiente, Trend, Titanium, Titanium+ and Flair. The price of this cross-hatch starts at Rs. 5.99 lakhs and goes up to Rs. 8.79 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi. The one which we had with us, Freestyle Flair Edition Petrol, is priced at Rs. 7.69 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi and being the top-spec trim, it comes loaded with all the bells and whistles. The new Freestyle directly rivals the Honda WR-V as these are the only cross-hatch in this segment. But indirectly, it also rivals the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Baleno, Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz, etc.
