Simple Wave Variants Explained: Which Trim Should You Buy?

Simple Energy has stepped into India's family scooter segment with the launch of the Simple Wave, the Bengaluru-based EV maker's first product built around everyday practicality rather than the outright performance of its sportier One line-up. The Wave arrives as a six-model range spread across three variants, Simple Wave S, Simple Wave and Simple Wave+, with battery options starting at 2.2 kWh and topping out at a 5 kWh pack good for 243 km of IDC range. Its biggest talking point is a segment-leading 70-litre storage capacity, anchored by an industry-first compartment called the Pill. Simple Energy has confirmed that bookings are open across its retail network, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the last week of September 2026. Pricing for the Wave S and Wave + is expected to be revealed closer to that date. If you're deciding which Simple Wave variant suits you, here's what each one offers.

Simple Wave S

The entry-point Wave S is where Simple has pegged its introductory pricing, and it's not exactly bare-bones for a base trim. Even at this level, you get the full 70-litre storage package, the 920 mm seat and the tubular steel chassis with telescopic front forks and twin rear shocks that the entire range shares. Where Simple has drawn the line is on the electronics side, this is the only trim where the smaller 4.5 kW motor shows up, reserved for the base 2.2 kWh pack, while the 2.7 kWh option steps up to the same 6.4 kW unit used across the rest of the line-up. Riders get three modes, EcoX, Eco and Ride, capped at 75 kph, and the option of the InfinityBlack LCD or a 7-inch TFT on the 2.7 kWh version. What you don't get here are the driver-assist extras like traction control or hill hold, which Simple has kept for the variants above.

Simple Wave

Move up to the mid-spec Wave and the scooter starts feeling like the version Simple actually wants most buyers to walk away with. The 3.7 kWh pack pushes IDC range to 171 km, and this is also the point where a Sport mode joins EcoX, Eco and Ride, taking the top speed from 75 kph to 90 kph. More importantly, the Wave is where the driver-assist kit fills out properly, GripSense traction control, regenerative braking, hill hold assist, reverse mode and crawl mode are all added on top of the connected features already available on the TFT-equipped Wave S. The colour palette also widens to six shades here, against just four on the Wave S's 2.7 kWh pack, giving buyers a fair bit more choice at the showroom.

Simple Wave +

The range-topping Wave + is built for buyers who don't want to think about charging more than they have to. Its 5 kWh pack is good for a claimed 243 km on the IDC cycle, currently the longest of any scooter in its price bracket, and it also gets the quickest charging in the line-up, with the fast-charge option topping the battery up from 0 to 80 percent in about two hours and fifteen minutes. The 6.4 kW motor here is tuned for 179 Nm of wheel torque, which should translate to noticeably brisker acceleration than the rest of the range. Every feature from the Wave carries over, GripSense, regen braking, hill hold, reverse and crawl modes, along with the full Simple Connect suite, and the 7-inch TFT comes as standard rather than an option. It's also offered in the widest six-colour palette alongside the standard Wave.

Value For Money Variant

For most families, the standard Simple Wave on the 3.7 kWh pack looks like the sweet spot. It picks up the full set of rider aids, GripSense, regen braking, hill hold and reverse mode, along with the 90 kph top speed and the six-colour palette, without paying for the extra 1.3 kWh of battery the Wave + carries. Unless your daily running genuinely demands the last 70-odd km of range, the jump to the range-topping trim starts to feel like it's chasing a number more than solving a real need.
